I'm sorry if there is an obvious solution/posted before.

How do you make it like the original TTD, where you could have monorail with its 2 engines, maglev with its 4 and normal rail with the SH 30 etc?

Hmm thats funny, I disabled Electrified Railway and keep monorail and maglev seperate, and I build a monorail depot against my railway track and it builds monorail tracks replacing the normal track... And I can't seem to get multi engine trains either.

go to the newgrf.cfg file in your TTD folder, and remove any line with the word "set" or "st" in them (arcticst.grf, tempset.grf, dbset.grf, etc)

Can you attach your ttdpatch.cfg file here so we can have a look at your switch settings ?
And also your newgrfw.cfg file !
