Hey, I drew a vehicle for this, partially with the help of PixelTool.

I call it the MR810, but feel free to name it something better. I'm not sure on the exact specifications or when it would be made available. I could also convert it into a road vehicle if it seems better suited to that kind of role.

Here, I've improved the image and made "original" and "modern" versions of the MR810 in both road and "guide rail" versions. I'm not quite sure if the rail version is wide enough, however.

Must be wrong offsets. I suppose that the monorail graphics is actually replaced.

Wow I've been waiting for someone to improve the mars tileset for years. I'll definitely test if you need more testers :)

...oops. Here, I've got even newer versions. I've given up on the guide rail versions, but here's the road versions.

The first is inspired by the "H.G. Wells" interpretation of Mars and is available in 1897. The livery for newly made vehicles is supposed to switch to the grey metal version in 1930 onwards. In addition, I actually managed to code it as a standalone NewGRF as well, but there's alignment issues, I don't know how to code the date-activated livery, and I have no idea how to solve either problem. Let me know if you'd like to see my NML file.

EDIT: Final version. This one's been shaded in darker 2CC on the modern trim. I've also successfully coded it as an independent NewGRF, complete with properly aligned sprites and date-triggered livery change. Zephyris can PM me for the NML if he wants to use it, since I'm sure at this stage it would be better to add it to the main file than to have it floating around. Otherwise, I plan on making an OpenGFX Mars+ to go along with the main NewGRFs.

Although I am sure you are not sure on inspiration, I've been watching some old Gerry Anderson series again recently, particularly Captain Scarlett, and I think a lot of the "futuristic" vehicles from that period (late 60s) would fit your Mars scenario quite nicely. For example.

Sorry for the total radio silence! I have been quietly working away on the train sprites, and now have a good set of graphics:
10 ground trains
10 monorails
5 maglevs
5 express maglevs
... plus all the carriages. I hope to get them all coded and functional in game this weekend.

The guided ground trains have been particularly fun to draw, it is a great excuse to draw big, tracked, hulking, chunks of machinery!

These look excellent. Why not remove the guide rail from the ground trains so they run on the caterpillar tracks or wheels within the defined area using sensors. The more advanced trains can pull themselves along the rails :)

They wouldn't be trains anymore... but that maybe a good suggestion for trams.

* Double headed short vehicles are misaligned
On the topic of this bug... I can't work out how I should align the images to get short double headed vehicles to work! I assume I am making some kind of error, but I am not sure what. Are there any simple examples of short double headed trains around I can copy?

You asked already! Let Zephyris go about his business without asking for things please!

This is one of the most productive graphics sets in years and we still have demands flying in...! Bloody kids!
