Photo of The Month - January 2014

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Ok, bit late that one... And so begins the first competition of 2014.

And with that, a very fitting theme

The theme for this month is A New Start.
Set by the winner of last month, Geo Ghost.
"A New Start... What does that mean to you? Looking for photos that may show something new. Either an early morning start from an old diesel, an aircraft fresh out of the works, a reserved steam engine being returned to the line after an overhaul, or a ship leaving harbour into the morning sunrise. Let's see what you can come up with =)"

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0114POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0114POTM_orudge.jpg / 0114POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0114POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!
-Richard

I should probably go and take a photo of those mythical Edinburgh trams then...

I've got plenty of new things to choose from, just they're quite rare!

True for me as well. I'll try to find something proper if I somehow magically get some time.

I'm happy to extend this one through Feb as well if you guys like :)
Gives you all a bit more time as there's only about 10 days left on this one.

Well, we did exactly the same last year so... I have no problem with this...

I'll be extending this competition through February as well.

However, would people like the theme to be changed? I'm uncertain whether it may be too difficult or whether it's just a case of everyone is a bit busy as of late.
Please do let me know soon :)

And thus I don't disappoint!

Bluebell Rly last weekend, first working weekend(s) of the year, with a hired-in DMU, more specifically a 101/106 "Power Twin" hybrid, thus also being the first ever DMU to visit the railway.

I've got an idea for a photo, but not sure if I can take it, it needs a bit of luck.

Time to FINALLY post something.
Just a tram awaiting departure time at it's initial stop. Not the best shot I've ever taken, but I think it fits here and perhaps some will like it; I reckon it much of a form of experiment and a play with my bright, prime lens.

Here's my entry. A new start for the old Galeb (translation: Seagull).

Built in 1938 as a banana carrier and named RAMB III, seized by the Regia Marina (Italian Navy) in WWII and converted to an auxiliary cruiser, then captured by the German Navy, converted to a minelayer and renamed Kiebitz, then sunk by the Allies in Rijeka harbour (bottom-right corner), raised from the bottom, converted to a school yacht and Tito's presidential yacht and renamed Galeb, again captured by the Yugoslav Navy during the Croatian Independence war in 1991, stolen and towed to the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, sold to a Greek shipping tycoon, again towed back to Rijeka, abandoned by the owner in a shipyard, seized by the shipyard because of owner's debts, sold on an auction to the City of Rijeka, reclaimed by the Greek owner but finally asigned to the City after a court proceeding, almost getting sunk again because of old age and poor maintenance...

And finally, after all this travail she is seeing a better future now - getting ready to be rebuilt and preserved as a floating museum. Hopefully, she will get the deserved place in history and see a peaceful retirement.

Lets also join this months competition with this picture of a NID waiting for departure at a station. These trains previously operated as local trains, and after a modernization some years ago they now serve as Intercity trains.

Hard to find something. And it probably also needs some explanation.
On the area of the old airport of Vienna (which was closed in the 50s), they now start to build a new city quarter. The first thing they built was the subway line, which is already running, therefore I think it might fit the topic. In a few years, this lake will be in the center of a small city. Let's hope it will be a nice place.

Hi all.

I am so sorry for the competition still not being sorted.
It has been a bit of a busy few weeks and I'm well behind with not only the competition here, but on other forums too.

It has also been difficult to find the enthusiasm to do them lately. I am very sorry for the disapointment. I will try to get this all sorted soon when I feel I have the time and focus to do it.

Apologies once again.
