Hi all, I know this will sound more than an idea for an expansion or another game, but, I remember SimCopter or Streets of SimCity that allowed you to import your SimCity and drive it inside, in a first person perspective... Would not be great if while I am playing TransportTycoon, I can select a plane, see the world from "the inside" and fly that plane to the destination airport by myself? Like if I were inside that amazing TransportTycoon world I have built? same with a bus, drive it through those nice cities... I am the only one that have ever thought about this?

I have seen the suggestion before, but the search function didn't help me find it.

Anyway, not possible. In OpenTTD world, the only perspective that exists is that isometric one you are used to. I.e. there are no models to generate another view from inside your car/train/plane cockpit. Only flat 2D sprites that create the illusion of a 3D world.

However, since I like sometimes to role-play the driver or passenger, I use the ctrl+click on the location icon of the vehicle window, which makes the main view area "follow" a vehicle around the map. Closest thing to what you ask. If we could change the zoom level to x2 with 32bpp for vehicle windows it would be even better, but still it's ok.

Nope, not the first. But, much like SimCopter and Streets of Sim City, you'll need an entirely new game to do it.

Not so entirely. Most of OpenTTD code would stay unchanged. There is other reason why OpenTTD will never be a 3D game. Such a conversion requires substantial amount of man-hours while not making OpenTTD significantly better. Developers prefer to sped their time on something more productive, on something which brings more fun, on putting a spirit into the game.

OpenTTD is like a theatre play, not like a Hollywood movie.

You could actually do this in the Playstation 1 version of Transport Tycoon.

Except the Playstation 1 version of Transport Tycoon has nothing in common with the PC version except the name and concepts. All new code, all new graphics. It is an entirely new game.
