Disabling Industry spawning in scenarios.

Heya!

First of all, apologies if this question was already asked recently, or if the answer is available on the wiki (though I could not find it there!)

A friend and I have made ourselves a fancy handdrawn map with hand placed towns and what not. It's really nice. Our only problem is that the game spawns random industries every now and then. My friend is very OCD about the map, and it has to look perfect! So we can't have random industries spawn everywhere! When starting a new game normally, letting the game generate a map, there is an options for industries to be "funding only". Is there any way to apply this to our scenario?

Thanks for reading :)

There is a NewGRF called manual industries that turns off automatic industry creation. You can find it via the in-game content download window. However, as with all NewGRFs you should add them before a new game/scenario is created. Adding NewGRF to an already existing scenario/game is not recommended.

You sir, are a hero <3  We'll try it out right away! Again, thank you very much!

You set the "funding only" before you start making a new scenario.

Unfortunately, that option is greyed out when generating a scenario from a heightmap! D:

you must set this before starting the scenario editor.

Is there a way to change this setting in game? I started a game with industry spawning disabled...

You can always risk turning on or changing the NewGRF in game, but that's your choice.

Except that it has nothing to do with the problem described here which relates to a general setting not influenced by NewGRFs[*]. It only guarantees that you get more problems, especially in the case of messing with industry NewGRFs.

[*]Yes, some NewGRFs have a parameter which allows to set whether new industries of certain types spawn or not. But that's a different story. And that also needs setting before game start

Is there anyway, it can work with the FIRS grf?

no. you'd have to modify FIRS directly.

No, you don't have to modify FIRS. Switching on the parameter "Prevent industries opening during gameplay" will do. Of course, you have to do it before starting the game/scenario.

Also worth noting: you can change a saved game into a scenario by changing the extension (to .scn) in Win explorer (et al).

So you can create a map from the Heightmap (with all the approrpiate newGRFs), save it at the start, skip out of OpenTTD and rename the file to "[whateveryoulike].scn" and then get at it to fine-tune it through the scenario editor.

(I nearly always do this with my games!)
