[Developing] Road Trains

Not road trains as in trains running on roads, but tractor trailer trucks with multiple trailers. But don't get me wrong, trains running on roads would be awesome. Well, back on track, having the building and usage like trains, a truck (locomotive) and different trailers for different cargo (railroad cars). Also, have larger road-based stations to accommodate for the size of the road trains. And yes, I know this would be a lot of work.

Assuming that the game can't already do this if one tried to create a .DAT with such a vehicle, then this will get nowhere as Editing the exe is illegal/modify Loco....

If it can be done with the tanker and tanker trailer, then I'm sure it can be done with other vehicles.

If I understand correctly you are looking for trucks like on this site !? Yes?

Yes, Walter, those are the trucks.

Well, I'm going to go look to see if it is possible. Unfortunately, I don't have the tools needed to actually design the vehicles.

Well, look on my website. There you'll find three "short" trucks.

Unfortunately, only four parts per vehicle are allowed. More is not possible.

 I want to see if I can find a way to have trucks and trailers interchangeable. And I also want to know how to make new .dat files for the vehicles so that maybe I could do it myself or partner with someone to work on the road trains.

Vehicle Creator, linked from Walter's website.

The only way to make road vehicles interchangeable is to change the compatibility variable -> http://www.tt-wiki.net/wiki/Variable:Li ... -_Vehicles

Here you can find trucks that are interchangeable.

http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=23752

The problem is that only 7 or 8 compatible vehicles may be in the list of the xml.

Now I am developing the road trains. Thanks for the help, Walter and LocoRoller! I will post updates! :D

If you took my US trucks and eliminated the dolly between the trailers and make it part of the trailer, you can get 3 trailers with the tractor but that's as much as you can get because there is a limit of 4 vehicle parts for one .dat file.

If you want to make separate tractor - trailers like Mayday did, [REL] Semi Truck and Trailer Pack, you have to be careful of the offsets because if you make them to high, they don't work. I've experimented with this and you have to render the tractor sprites with the fifth wheel in the exact same spot for them to work and look proper. It's a pain in the butt to get correct but they can be made. But I'm pretty sure you can't get it to use more then one trailer. Oh and they clip a LOT doing them like he did. That's why I made mine as a tractor-trailer together.

What is a dolly? How about if you increase the top speed of the trucks so the AI will choose it?

A dolly is the fifth wheel with 2 or 4 wheels used to connect a second trailer to. You can change the speed of them for yourself if you like but I won't do it and re-release them like that.

I've had another idea, instead of individual trailers, truck-and-trailer blocks and trailer blocks. Like one of Tattoo's US pack trucks with an additional 4 peice trailer on the end of it. What do you guys think?

The trucks should be customizable, meaning you set the # of trailers to whatever you want...at least up to 4.

It's not possible. Unless you figure out some code that no one else has yet.

Rethink: I've messed with this and because of the offsets, you can't get the parts aligned to look correct. I've never tried shorter trailers tho, like the oil truck & trailer now. You might can experiment with the short trailers and see what you can get. The trucks I did are really too long to compare with the rest of the stock. I really should shorten them more to match better. Bit I like em how they are now.

The most I've seen done is by Selenquil. Look here for the trucks he did. SQ Actros Roadtrain Cola. Select 'truck' near the bottom in the left menu.

The dumb crap is that he has two cargo trucks that carry two passengers or 183 passengers. It isn't worth the downloading.

You didn't hit the correct 'truck' button. hit the second one near the bottom like I said in the last post.

It has 2 passengers because i took the driver and codriver as passengers hehe.. You can always change that.
I made them years ago. Long time..

Well, if someone doesn't like them he doesn't have to download them. It's not that the cargo-info doesn't stand right there some pixels right from the downloadlink..

What companies' colors should be used? Should I also include a company colors copy?
