Presignals don't seem to work..

Post by redhotwax »

Hi there..

Discovered this forum today, how brilliant to see such a big community who work on this great game! I do have a problem with the presignals.

I've got a 2 rail station, which I want to run using presignals. The problem is that I can't get the final signal to turn green, the rest of the signals are setup exactly as specified in the tutorial.

Code: Select all

              --------- 2--------- 3 -------
-- 1 ------ ----------- 4 -----------
             --------- 2 --------- 3--------
Right, 1 is a one way entrance. 2 is a two way signal, 3 is a one way exit and 4 is also a one way exit. The game recognizes 1 and 2 as presignals. 3 also changes to green, so up to there it's fine. The problem is that 4 remains red. I've tried replacing all signals in various combinations (as specified in the tutorial), but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me out?

Uhm, you sure that you have the right signal? because exit signals themselves behave exactly like normal signals.
But your problem could be: do you have any signals /after/ signal 4 ? because if not, then all or the track after signal 4 count as one block, and if there's a train in all that track, the signal turns red.
Can't think of anything else....

And oh yeah, signal(s) 3 shouldn't be exit signals, they just should be one way. Signal(s) 2 though, should be exit signals.. they mean the exit of a pre-signal block, not the exit of a station or something. In that way, the game will recognize signal 1 as a pre-signal.
Signal 4 is nothing special really....

I don't, no. I did notice that when I place a new signal after signal 4, it does go to a green light, but then that very signal turns red, so that pretty much just 'moves the problem along to next signal'. Is there any way round this?

if Ctrl+S key does not work (the same as About->Screenshot) in TTD then press PRINT SCREEN key (prnt_screen) and open Paint and use Paste, this will copy screen of whole display ... last thing is to convert BMP to JPG/PNG/GIF file and post it here

Ok, that must mean that there must be a train somewhere on that track. Remember: if there is a train in a block, then ALL signals entering that block are red. And a block is defined as all the rails completely closed in by signals in all directions.

Well, it turned out to be what you said, the signals considering the rest of my track as one block. So I've fixed that by placing signals every so many squares.. seems like that is the only solution, and to be honest, it isn't half as bad as I thought, brightens up the track ;)
