I'm am a noob at this game so I am just gonna ask because no google search gets me the answer, In multiplayer do I make money from shares without buying them and then waiting until the company value goes up and then selling them? Or do I only make money when I resell?

Your question is a bit unclear for me. What do you mean exactly by "making money from shares without buying them"?
You won't get dividends from a company if you buy its shares, you can only make money from shares if you buy them and sell them later when the company value goes up.

The only way to make money from shares in OpenTTD is by selling them at a higher price than you bought them
