What's causing this memory crash??

Post by faint_riot »

I've searched these forums/google and the only tangible answer I can find is changing the sprite_cache_px (whatever it is) to 16. I've tried 4 and 8 but it's unplayable due to low FPS. Even changing the sprite_cache lower just delays the inevitable. Still crashes.

I've made no changes to NewGRF's or anything else other than small settings in the options.. Just downloaded, installed and played.

My computer is old, (1.6ghz single core | 2GB RAM | GeForce MX440) but it's good enough to play this.. I'm just getting this annoying crash.

Please tell me that there is a fix for this. If not, well.. I'll just save frequently. Thanks. Oh, and Happy New Year

Can you provide the crash.log, crash.cmp, crash.sav and crash.png ?

Did you try a smaller map, like 256*256 tiles?
Did you set your blitter in the openttd.cfg to 8bpp-optimized?

Are you sure that your RAM is working properly, did you run a memory check?

After changing the blitter setting, things seem to be okay. Thanks man.

I'm going to keep this game up though. Just to see if it does crash, and if it does I'll post back.

I think I found the solution to my problem.

I have a harddrive docking bay that plugs in via USB, and every once in awhile it will 'autoplay'. This might be the case because I haven't notice it autoplay except immediately after a crash.

Moving my install over to my internal drive to see if it'll fix this.

This might be a sign that the USB connection is not very well, so the hard drive is "removed" because the connection is lost. Then, when it is readded because it can connect again, the autoplay is executed.

Exactly. I've changed the USB cord twice to no avail. Might be the USB output jack on the back of the bay. I've tried looking for drivers also. It's a lost cause. It's no big deal though.

So far, the autoplay has come on and the game is still going. I'll keep it up longer just to make sure.
