NewStations v0.6

Posted: 16 Dec 2012 22:50
by michael blunck
Today, I´d like to release NewStations 0.6, fully compatible to its predecessors.

Besides a couple of bug fixes and graphics improvements, its highlights are:

- two new types of entryways for underpasses
- a new "waypoint" w/o building (footpath only, not for TTDPatch)
- a separating track w/o platforms (automatic)
- a large number of freight sheds, fitting the MariCo sheds
- depot facilities: engine sheds and roundhouses

This is the version based on the TTD DOS palette, which should be used for OpenTTD. A version based on TTD´s windows palette, suitable for TTDPatch (windows) can be downloaded from my site.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After nearly 7 years, for NewStations, the very first newGRF station set ever coded for TTDPatch/OpenTTD, a new version has been released!

This version 0.5 is compatible with its predecessor, v0.44.

Highlights:

- support for OpenTTD's "rail type" feature,
- station building including "custom" foundations when build on slopes,
- automatic buffers, both for platforms and free track,
- 4 new station buildings (Solovec, Freiburg, Bamberg, Avetri),
- 1 new platform type,
- 4 new non-track platform tiles,
- mostly all-new graphics for platform tiles.

In more detail:

V0.51 (Dec 21th, 2012)

- fixed blinking ground tile of non-track large hall (in menu)
- fixed some translations (Dutch, Espagnol)
- fixed corrupted buffer ID counting (due to late inserting of "Avetri" into the low ID range)
- fixed corrupted nopylons() and nowires() functions for all non-track tiles
- ground sprite fix for monorail & maglev rail types (in menu)
- changed: draw platform buffers only for this newGRF, not for others

V0.5 (Dec 12th, 2012):
- fixed availability dates for non-track stations "Buir", "Taucha" and "Sitges"
- fixed all platform rear edge graphics to better fit new custom foundations
- fixed platform edge graphics for snowy non-track small stations
- fixed wrong passenger sprite allocation for "roofs" (pedestrian overpass)
- fixed: "Montelusa" was lacking company colour on southern station tile
- fixed: graphical unification of pedestrian crossings for "roofs", "parking lots" and "empty"
- fixed some translations
- modified warning stripes on all platforms
- modified the AI support
- disallowed building of parking lots on "wrong" slopes
- removed automatic building of underpasses for "platforms"
- added small station "Solovec"
- added medium stations "Freiburg", "Bamberg" and "Avetri"
- added two new non-track station types (small/large hall)
- added "automatic" buffers
- added a "separating track" station tile (mock signal)
- added a "void" buffer variant (for free tracks)
- added platform type "stairs" (custom slope)
- added "passenger shelters" on "platform" tiles
- added standard custom foundations for building on land or near water
- added fences for all platforms when build on different height levels
- added snow for "void" station and buffer tiles
- added snow for standard buffer tiles
- added cargo triggers for station tiles showing passenger graphics

A note for medium stations "Bamberg" and "Avetri":
These two stations are intended to be built on slopes. "Bamberg" and its extensions always needs to be built on a "front slope" (i.e., towards the viewer). "Avetri" may also be built on flat terrain, but in this case won´t display its forefront complete with entrance and shops.

The set can be downloaded from my site and here:

As always, the bundles (DOS- and Windows graphics) contain a donotreadme file with some more information.

Last, but not least, I'd like to thank my alpha testers, especially lead tester wallyweb, for tireless bug-hunting, through a series of 21 alpha versions in just 5 weeks!

Have fun!
Michael

Super work by everyone involved. To all those inspired to start new games by this release (including myself) - enter the bloomin' screenshot competition! We only have 3 entries so far!

Thanks for this wonderful release, Michael! So often I've wanted to use a new rail GRF, but also wanted to use your stations. Until now, I would pick one or the other, as the graphical difference between default track, and some of the new track sprites was too much for me to enjoy.

Now I don't have to choose new stations or new track!

Indeed an early Christmas present!

Good stuff. I've always liked the flexibility NewStations offered, so I'm happy to see even more different tiles to build endless combinations with.

That really is a nice set of new features. :D In particular, the railtypes will make it look far better with Nutracks, and should allow me to play with the new finescale things without it looking absurd...
Thanks.

Pleeease? :P
In particular, it'll make it far more practical to use it in multiplayer games, where it's at the least inconvenient to ensure matched versions of non-Banana-ised grfs across all players. Possible for private matches between a reasonably constant group of people, but it effectively excludes NewStations from the (quite large) pool of public servers.

One wish: Could you separate the bare ground buffers from station ones?

I love the work on the newstations -grf! Keep up the good work!

But in dutch language it reads: "Middelgrot" and should be "Middelgroot". That's all.

Thank you for this present! :D :D :D

Michael Blunck wrote:automatic buffers, both for platforms and free track,
Where are you building your buffers?
As indicated, these are now automatic:
- Platforms get platform buffers
- Void platforms (grass) get void buffers (grass)
- Non-station tracks get void buffers (grass)
All this is available from just one icon.

Thank you all for your interest. It´s my pleasure to present you another valuable game addition.

Don´t hesitate to report any bugs/glitches/inconveniences in this thread.

ATM, there seem to be only very small bugs (some blinking pixels, some translations typos). This speaks for the quality of the alpha testers.

Should there emerge any more bugs, I´ll release a bug fix version soon, together with wallyweb´s extensive and illustrative French fichier "nemelisezpas". :p

regards
Michael

And for station "Freiburg" there are gliches when using with foundations (Maybe there should be restrictions on terrain to be leveled  )
