Sign Restrictions

First hello everyone and thank you for adding a lot more to this awsome game *Now if only chris would do something, or the publishers allow him

* Anyway to the first, let me aplogzie if this has been addressed already, i looked through the stickys and did a quick search and didn't see this mentioned.
As some of you may or may not know TTD has a limt to how many signs can be placed/active on the map at once. *i'm not sure of the exact number if I had to guess I'd say about 20-25 is the limt it may be smaller or larger but not by much* I use signs a lot. Mainly because I like to make 'highways' *long roads connecting to cittes, double roads to act as large highways etc* and I like to 'mark' them with signs to keep track witch highway is what. Mainly for my vechiles and such.
Anywayz I figured this may possibly be an easy fix, considering we have addressed all the other limts. I'm suprised this hasn't been disscused but maybe i'm one of the few who goes bonkers with signs

I was just curios to see if it's been thought about, or could be done. Thanks guys keep up the great work.

I don't think I've bumped into any sign restrictions... maybe because I don't really use signs that much. (Except for sign cheats

)

I hit that restriction all the time :/
I think I once suggested that, and I don't think its possible.

If no patchgod replies then:
a) it's impossible
b) it's not interesting
There could be a c) but I don't know

You got a) and b) right. c) would be "done already"

In case you're wondering, the problem is that TTD has a hard-coded memory limit for "player-modified strings." This includes not only sign content, but also special names for trains, and I think station names too although I'm not sure. It's not possible to raise this limit because of the rather primitive way memory is allocated in TTD.
So, don't use so many signs.

Actually, the number of custom names isn't the issue. The signs themselves have a limited size array that holds their positions. Too much work to change that size.

Hi ! I was on TTDPatch before playing to OTTD. I have a real big problem with this limit. In fact, I was playing on a scenario yesterday on OTTD -a big scenario with many many towns- and after 10 minutes I saw "Too many names defined". What ??? Less than 10 stations placed, less than 5 five stations renamed and already this boring message ?
So, I'm very angry angainst OTTD (which have moreover a limited playing year at 2090). I decided to return to TTDPatch.
My questions :
> Is there the same problem in TTDPatch ?
> Is TTDPatch still limited to 256*256 maps or can I load Europa Map scenario (almost 2000*2000) ?
Thanks everybody !

"Arf" in French means... "What a piti !". In fact, it's a variation of "Mince", "Fichtre", "Diantre".

Could have also meant seal claps, because he realised how stupid he was.
