larger world map...

Post by Stampertie »

lots of great discussions going on these forums, but how impossible is it to get a larger worldmap?

I'm waiting for someone to fix something like this for like ages... its like more important then new trains/vehicles/railways etc. the only thing that really holds me back is the small world map... you can't make any real cool realistic distances with passenger lines etcetera...

also slower time would rock :) imho :)

Impossible, both. Please make sure to search for topics before starting a 2167th one. Some members of this forum don't like that very much.

heh sorry.. but still hope the people from the mod are trying to fix this... :) would be to awesome..

and if the patch people can fix limitations like the maximum number of trains available. who knows, it could even be possible to fix maps. it has to be a variable somewhere. I doub't it's impossible to adjust :)

Nope, can't be done.

but still chris prolly had his reasons

I bet his main reason was because he never thought this game would still be played in this time of superfast pc's, and he didn't want the game to become unplayable because it was too heavy. In those times games weren't made to improve with technology, like nowadays (have you ever seen a game from that time where you could, for example, change the resolution?)

yeah, probaply, but still the size of a map is not really something u would make a static variable, I mean what if later during programming he would find out that the mapsize was to large and to heavy, he couldn't change it anymore.

but you understand what I mean :)

You can't just add a bit to a byte like that :P
255 is a magical number
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future

The map is 255 squares?
Alcohol is not the answer, it just makes you forget the question.

255x255 tiles.
There's no squares in the game at all (I think).

Yes there are, but because the view is isometric they appear as parallelograms.
There are 65025 squares or parallelograms.

what "language" is TT written in, C?, a l33t C person with lots of spare time should be able to fix things like this, it *is* possible :), we should beg chris for it... :)

Begging Chris is no use. TTD is written in assembly.

Everything is NOT possible when patching TTD because of how it is written.
Everything is possible in TTU, because they're starting it from scratch.

Stampertie, STFU and RTFM. This is the millionth request for larger maps, and it's NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Either download Simutrans, or wait for TTU or WC.

Slower time on the other hand, may be possible, it only involves increasing the length of a tick. I think they doubled it though - my original TT Deluxe used 1 day - 4 seconds, and TTDPatch uses 1 day - 2 seconds, according to my timings.

Increasing the amount of ticks doesn't help, because all speeds increase.
