I think I heard time ago that he knows about it and doesn't like it. Can't say more because I don't remember well. Surely some of the veterans of this forum know more about it.

Seriously though; CS IS aware of OTTD, though he is, as buckethead pointed out, not that fond of it or the patch; whilst both seek to improve and expand on his games, he appears to see it as an affront to his work, claiming that all his games are released as they are intended to function. I see his mindset of that of an artist who sees their work "retouched" or "amended" and can see why he doesn't seem that fond of either OTTD or The Patch as a result... We're changing his masterpiece...

Things like bugs, or lacking features, unless they are game breaking on release (which AFAIK hasn't occurred, somewhat a miracle considering the games were written by hand in assembly) are little character-building flaws

I think he doesn't like the way that the simplicity of his games has been eliminated. I don't think he's as much as a transport fan as we are..

It seems a little sad that he doesn't like OpenTTD. If I was a developer who had made my money and and finished developing, I'd be honoured to be immortalised in a game such as this for years to come. Or that so many people were inspired by his work, they created their own. Though I can understand him not liking the simplicity element being taken away, but then again, TTD was hardly a simple game on release.

sadly, "the industry" and the thereby inspired "copyright" actively discourages "remixing" of artistic work

Well, "remixing" (of artistic work) is never a good thing. Still, it´s the way how "the industry" works. And no, "copyright" has not been inspired originally by "the industry", what you mean is called "patents". :P
