Re: TARS Trains: Total Alpine Replacement Set Trains

Post by Dwight_K._Schrute »

I think I should mention that this is not a complete set, yet. It is just a v0.1 and of course more trains are planned. So if you have wishes, suggestions or if you want to contribute let us know.

EDIT: Two little impressions from the set:

Looks nice so far, one thing I like is that there arent useless engines but they evolve with time - newer = better. :)

Yes, of course. In later versions this set will contain freight trains as well.

Very nice trainsets ! Especially the Stadler Flirt and the RailJet are very nice ! :D :o :o :o

I know it's a first release but the running costs for the RailJet are almost €3.000.000 a year !

But overall a very nice trainset !

Shouldn't the RailJet also have higher top speed? But I agree with others this is a very good start.

This is fixed in 0.1.1. I forgot to adjust the top speed of the control car and the coach.

Thank You! But I can't see the problem with the running costs. See attached picture. Maybe you can post a screenshot or a savegame?

EDIT: If you play with inflation this may happen. But the revenues are very high then, too, aren't they?

Are you sure you dont have inflation on? As your train obviously made only -400 000 om the last year, 2 600 000 income per year is ... suspicious

Indeed I had the inflation on . Now I disabled it but the running costs stay very high ! :(:(:(
The ÖBB set is really beautiful but with such high running costs it is very difficult to make profits .
The DB set I use doesn't have that high amount of running costs.

Disabling inflation in a running game doesn't reset all costs. It just disables inflation from that point forward.

A savegame may be useful to figure out what went wrong here.

I think inflation is no problem as your revenues rise in the same amount your costs do. But there seem to be very few passengers in your train. So maybe your average utilisation is just too low to run the train profitably.

actually income rises slower than expenses with inflation, so when you don't have technical development over the 170 years of inflation you run into trouble.

Addendum: my math says:
(1.04/1.03)^170 = 5.168202132 (4% inflation) and
(1.02/1.01)^170 = 5.338209935 (2% inflation)
so after 170 years running costs have increased by ~ factor 5.

Thank you for this information Eddi. So I think the best and easiest way to handle this is a parameter. Version 0.2 will have a parameter to adjust running costs (1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4)

"Technical development" is beside the point; it's impossible to balance a set for inflation, because the level of divergence between costs and incomes is dependent on how long the game has been running - ie, by game year 2000 a game which was started in 1850 has 150 years of inflation divergence, whereas one started in 1975 only has 25 years worth. To make the vehicles competitive in the first case means making them ridiculously cheap in the second (and they still wont make profit in a game started in 1800!).

The only reasonable thing set developers can do for now is recommend players play with inflation turned off, and balance vehicles for that.

Here is version 0.1.2

It fixes some minor issues with speed (SBB control car) and graphic alignments (SBB Re 450). There is still a bug with DB BR 628 (graphics too long), which we will fix before 0.2.0. After that work can begin for 0.2.0. There are alreaady some SBB mail wagons. But if you have further suggestions, please let us know.
