First, thank you to all who have made this amazing game possible.

What are the must have GRF/mods to the game to really kick it up a notch? More industries, more graphics, all that jazz = more fun!!! Thanks!

Check out GRFCrawler, that has most GRFs categorised for easy viewing.

I'd recommend the bananas website here http://bananas.openttd.org/en/newgrf/

It lists all GRFs available from the in game download system by number of downloads so you can see the popular ones. The names link to discussion topics / websites for those GRF.

While one may be led to believe so, the popularity is not reflected by those numbers in the least. It only lists the downloads of that very specific version. Thus a NewGRF which fixes glitches and bugs on a regular basis will necessarily be always in the last places, while one NewGRF once uploaded, with many bugs, tested by many once and forgotten afterwards, will inevitably end up in the first places.

Well, I'm not at home right now so I don't have my full list, but I've got some time to kill, so here are some of my favorites that I recommend off the top of my head, a list (in no particular order) which is by no means conclusive:

Sailing Ships (for games earlier than the late 19th century)

... and while it's not a newGRF, I recommend Chill's Patchpack for the numerous neato features it... well, features.

Whew! Well, that's all I can think of right now. (I hope I got all the links right!) I'm sure there are some I've missed, but I won't be home for a few days so I won't know for sure for a while.
