Pre 1920 trains and wagons question

Post by Glenn Keen »

Firstly, if this is in the wrong forum, sorry, and please feel free to move it to where it should be.

Anyway, I was talking with a friend the other day about how there hadn't been a really great transport game since Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
After this I decided to do some searching to see if there was anything I had missed and this is when I found OTTD!

WOW, simply a amazing project, and outstanding mods. Transport heaven! :D

So I'm now set up and have added several mods and am a VERY happy person. However I've come across one problem that I can't seasm to solve or find a obvious answer too by searching the forums.

I like to start my games early, 1900 is ideal in my book. I have early land vehicles in (back to horse drawn times), early ships & barges (sailing ships etc), and the avation stuff kicks in around 1915 which is spot on, however I'm having problems with the trains.

I've tried the train sets that say they include early trains, but the only trains I get start in 1902. Nnot a real issue but I'd like earlier than that if possible, however with these earlier trains there seams to be no passenger or cargo wagons available until 1920!

Currently have installed:-

UK railway set (UKRS2)
UK Renewal train set 3.04
Generic European Set (GES) Public Alpha 2.1
TD DP + A
2cc Chimera

Any ideas what I'm missing or have done wrong? Or are the real early trains just not availabel yet as several of the sets are still beta releases?

Many thanks for any answers/advice.

Use only one train set at a time! (e.g. UKRS2)

Looks like UKRS2 which is the only train set which should give you pre 1920 trains there (I think, not 100% sure on GES) is disabling it's self due to conflicting new GRF's and as Eddi rightly suggests you should only use one train set. with the exception of addons to train sets and compatible sets such as UKRS2 and NARS2.

Yep, it was the multiple train sets that was the problem.

Stems from when I was searching and found a switch that in theory allows UKRS2 to possibly work with other train sets.

As I wasn't getting any error messages, I was presuming all was well. Rule No.1, never presume anything! :D

Anyway, everything working great now, off to build my transport empire!

Many thanks all.

Why?

1. "multipool" is standard
2. people want to use all sets all the time.

obviously, that is because the other option would cause even more maintenance trouble for us. also obviously that now totally backfires due to the set designer's inability to accept changes.
i have said this to you about a dozen times already: "multipool" was never really intended for train sets. its primary target was road vehicle sets, because some bus/truck set designers, let's call them "G.", didn't obey the convention to leave out some IDs for trams.

Isn't it blatantly obvious that any multiplayer or singleplayer game using a real world map benefits greatly from the ability to use multiple trainsets at the same time.
Different countries use different rolling stock afterall.

You are at least 2 years behind:

In many European countries we have a high degree of cross-border traffic, with e.g. TGVs running into Switzerland and Germany, ICEs running into France and Belgian, Polish and Czech trains running into Germany, etc., pp.

So, what we need would be a flexible interface to allow cross-set usability. What we don´t need is an amorph mass of incompatible train set vehicles in our games.
