Waited for an hour on a poxy local platform for damn steam train. Took friends who don't even like trains on the promise that it would be 'spectacular'.
They already think i'm train spotter, now think i'm a bad train spotter
The vodka was nice though.
How do you find info about specials like this?
Anyone else tried to share the train love to people who don't?
Bah...

1Z27 left BTM 5 late but apart from fluxing up to around 9 late at Weston-S-Mare, it arrived Taunton on time for its water and from there ran early until it disappeared off the national network 6 early at 1249. Can't find the return working (1Z28).

I tried seeing Bittern 2 or 3 times last winter (very early mornings when it was freezing cold!)
Except it kept being replaced with quite an ugly dirty diesel - despite the company saying it was running and claiming that was another special (conveniently running at the exact same time... stopping at all the same stations... hmmm)
Ah well. Going to try again on Thursday to see Bittern coming up the East Coast... when the rail company finds out what time they are actually running her that is

Probably ran late. Did you not see a diesel + coaches?

No, but then a friend found a site which suggested the timetable had been moved an hour forward for that day.
Funny how i always seem to see the best stuff by accident, when i try it never shows
It was fun anyway we had a good laugh.

Trains disappearing off the radar? Oooh-err, very X-files. Either sucked up by a UFO or impounded by MI5 for the strategic reserve, I think.[/conspiracy theorist].

Uhm... and going where? Up the M5 instead?
Back to the other point though, you ever tried to get people with nearly zero interest in choo choos to see why some people love them so?

To quote the late great Peter Cook:
"I would like to make one thing clear at the very outset and that is, when you speak of a train robbery, this involved no loss of train, merely what I like to call the contents of the train which were pilfered. We haven't lost a train since... 1946, I believe it was - the year of the great snows, when we mislaid a small one..."

Just to update that...
Ticking off Bittern in my steam book
(Hypothetically - I do not own a steam book. I just have a mental list of what known steam engines I have seen since i was little

)
