[OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
[OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
Recently I decided to give OTTD a spin for a change.
It took me a little while to acclimatise to the new interface, but things are going swimmingly now.
This game was done with Chill's Patchpack V8 (cargodist yay), using NuTracks and several vehicle and station sets.
Screen 1:
This is the fourth largest town on the map, a minor interchange point between rail lines and a ferry service across the water.
It happens to lie on the one nutracks very high speed line I built. (Heavens that track is expensive, could have saved myself a bunch by just building 230kph track as the 24 carriage TGV Duplexs rarely make it above that anyway).
Another curious thing is that one station of the recently built metro has been cunningly disguised as a series of tall buildings, works surprisingly neatly really.
Screen 2:
This is as more or less the main centre of the network. Bratbourne is the second largest town and probably the most connected, for a long time is was the most populated but was overtaken a few years ago by another (rather less connected). The entire area, particularly between the three towns and the routes leading off to the north-east, is heavily congested (something will eventually have to be done about that).
The airport I added not too long ago, which is why it is mostly empty as I've not yet finished scheduling planes to it.
Screen 3:
This is a rather minor town sitting midway along train line R9 and along a relatively major bus route.
The line is one of the slower ones, the track limit being 120kph (most lines run at 160kph).
I'll currently also in the middle of replacing all the trains on the route, from the model of the 3 trains on the northbound track (rather underpowered diesels), to more powerful and capacious EMUs as seen on the southbound track.

So cunningly disguised that I can't see it for... well, the buildings. I guess that's the idea.JGR wrote:Another curious thing is that one station of the recently built metro has been cunningly disguised as a series of tall buildings, works surprisingly neatly really.
Personally I don't think I could put up with that for long, I like to be able to see where my trains run, but to each their own.
Re: [OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
Southeast of "Kinwood Transfer", you have two empty tiles. I believe the station is just above those
EDIT: you can even see a train there!

My Scenarios:
Archipiélago Hermoso (Latest Release: Version 3.2)
Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)

Aha, well spotted Chrill... I somehow missed that myself. Your keen eye bests my own paltry eyesight.
I think I need another eye exam.

I usually play with transparency on, so it doesn't bother me.Gremnon wrote:So cunningly disguised that I can't see it for... well, the buildings. You win a biscuit for observational skills ^^Chrill wrote:Southeast of "Kinwood Transfer", you have two empty tiles. I believe the station is just above those

Screen 4:
This is the terminus of part of the mainline from Bratbourne and the junction of two other lines.
I didn't bother to disguise the small metro line this time around

I love the scenario you've used with the massive bay, as well as you generous use of ships. Interesting shots here.

Awesome network
I also like your network map. Please tell me, what software did you use to make it?
Thanks,
Jake

Thank you. I'm expanding the shipping fleet further in fact, as many of the long distance land and air routes are overloaded.Lankku wrote:I love the scenario you've used with the massive bay, as well as you generous use of ships. Interesting shots here.

Re: [OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
I've not been playing all that much recently, but I have made a fair few changes since my last set of screenies...
Screen 5:
Rail and sea services at Dartown have been expanded quite considerably recently.
A bay-side ship service now calls there. Dartown station (not Dartown Woods), is a new development on the recently built R19 line, designed to relieve pressure on the overburdened L1 lines.
Screen 6:
Tunham here is one of the oldest (and most congested) parts of the network. The coastside metro L11, and the (somewhat disappointing) maglev to Bratbourne Airport, M1, are more recent endeavours designed to increase the overall capacity along busy corridors.
EDIT: I had uploaded the wrong screenshot :\
Network Map:
Again, does what it says on the tin.
The more notable changes are the addition of lines: R18-20, L14-15, E3 and M1, the extension of line L1, changes to line R14 at Finthill/Plonningbury and R10 at Tunford, and many added/improved sea transport routes.

Screen 7:
The not-so-aptly named town of Waningway-on-sea...
Screen 8:
A cheap diesel locomotive hauls passengers to and fro along line L12, from the main station at Prefingbridge to the docks at Darborough Bay.
Screen 9:
Tunford, a fairly major town and interchange site. Lines R8, R10 and TGV1 meet here, but not all at the same point. Following some construction and rerouteing works, route R10 now has two stations in the town to interchange with the two other lines. Only half of the trains on the TGV line stop there, the result of this is that there are 4 high speed tunnels under Tunford, two for the station and two bypass lines, which did not work out cheap... (Then again, the trains do rake in money).

Re: [OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
Some more:
Screen 10:
The rolling stock on line L1 was replaced with more capacious and longer sets due to capacity issues along the line. All the platforms on the line had to be lengthened from 4-6 tiles, with the exception of Wrinfingburg which was increased to 7 tiles, and had an extra platform added. This was because line R19 was extended through Wrinfingburg to Baston Docks, creating the first (and so far only) dual powered section of track on the network.
(In the shot, the old L1 stock is in the upper platform, the new stock in the lower, and the R19 mainline stock in the middle platform).
Screen 11:
Chaville station was previously being overloaded with traffic on the mainline axis, so the trackwork was redone such that traffic on the mainline could also call at the other side platforms. A queuing track was added to both ends such that waiting trains did not block express trains from passing through
Screen 12:
The newly built line R21 passes over the also fairly recently built terminus of line R6B. Previously the only service to the town was a rather spotty bus service (3 of which have decided to turn up at once in the pic).

Re: [OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
Screen 12:
This area has been redone several times to cope with increasing amounts of traffic and changes in routing.
All the mainline traffic to the south and west of Wendingstone Junction passes through it, and most of it also stops there.
Farfingbridge woods is also a recent addition, most traffic bypasses it however.
Screen 13:
Tredstone and Finthill have seen quite a bit of development lately. Finthill has grown rather dramatically and as a result I decided to add a third station on the south-west edge as part of line R21.
That line was built mostly to move passengers from Finthill and stations to the south-west towards Tunham without having to change at Dennford. As the Dennford area and the lines leading to and from it are already overcrowded.

Re: [OTTD] JGR's Screenshots Mark II
Time for some more screenies ^^
Screen 13:
This airport was built a while ago to essentially act as a hub for air traffic crossing the bay.
The two lines originally serving it (the two sets of short platforms), were quickly overwhelmed with traffic, and so several additional lines serving the airport (and indeed the general area) had to be built.
Screen 14:
This rather unassuming little town was previously very much a neglected backwater. However as the only connection between, it and the two adjacent towns (all grown rather large), and the rest of the network became increasingly overloaded, some alternative routes to the south, and a major port, and to the east were laid in to alleviate the bottleneck between Gruwood and Dindston Airport (which is still the single largest flow between nodes on the network, at about 4000 units of passengers per month).
Network Map:
Quite a lot of new track has been laid, particularly in the north-west quadrant, as the TGV line and lines R8, R9 and R10 became overloaded with traffic. The new additions are lines R22-R25, L18 and E4.
More shots may be coming soon ^^

I've moved onto a new game, since the last post ^^
It's still a work in progress, but quite well developed.
It's a 512x1024 and I'm not very far from connecting up every town on the map (there's just one corner left, along with the capacity issues).
Here are 3 random "teaser" shots. I'll probably upload the network map (the latest in-game changes need to be added first) and more shots, later.

I'll be uploading pics not quite at random later (though if you want to see a particular area, just speak up).
