Airplanes Crashing?

I have seemed to get a lot of planes crashing. Is there a secret to preventing them from crashing?
There are two secrets:
a) there are small and big airplanes. Big airplanes have a high chance of crashing on small airports (small and commuter).
b) you can disable airplane crashes somewhere in the advanced settings (->vehicles->number of plane crashes).
