and I don't mean replace old vehicles automatically when they get old like you can enable in the settings already.

but rather to allow you to pick a specific vehicle (a locomotive, wagon, bus/truck, ship or plane) and specific a other type to replace it.
for exemple:
I have some UU '37' locomotives in the game, suppose I want to replace them with floss '47' locomotives.
now I'd have to have them return to the train depot and then make a new train with the old wagons and sell the locomotive manually for each I want to replace.

my suggestion is to do this:

for: (group) all trains.
replace: (loco) UU '37'
with: (loco) floss '47'

but with a drag 'n' drop UI, in which case you can open a overview of, in this case, all trains you have, drag the group in which it has to be replaced (or just those trains in which it has to be replaced), drag in the part that has to be replaced (you can do this from a list of als trains and wagons you have in use). and drag in the part that should replace it (from a list of all available locomotives and wagons).

this then should also allow you to replace a entire train at once.
so that I could also replace a passenger train with a separate locomotive with a manley-morel DMU train (or two in traction).

but that this would also allow me to say "keep old trains/locomotives" or "sell old trains/locomotive"
this would also be kinda logical since a real transport company also doesn't keep really old types if there much better new onces.

Do you know of Autoreplace? (not the same thing as autorenew)

Something in the same area that would be nice though would be the opposite to the already present function that removes wagons if the train gets too long: Autofill the trains in the autoreplace with a predefiened wagon up to a certain length. I'm often annoyed when switching from multiple to singel unit locomotives and the trains end up a square or so shorter.

That is in principle a good idea, but how do you define which wagon to attach? copy the last wagon? this might be a caboose carrying no cargo in some sets. copy the first wagon? this might be another engine in a dual head consist. what about consists with multiple cargos?

I do now does that also allow to be applied to a group of vehicles? that is mostly what I mean, so you don't have to do it one by one.

I guess you could give the option for the user to define a specific wagon that should be attached.
so it's defined when you enable the option and then it will ask what wagon to use.

Hello, sorry for my ignorance, but i dont know how the autoreplace button in the depot menu works. When i click it nothing happens. I read that there is autorenew and autoreplace function in OTTD, but still this button seems not to work in my case. I've call an old airplane in the depot and clicking this button doesn't replace the plane, nor some trains. Probably i've missed the point, what i need to do to make it work. Any help is welcome.

For autoreplace to happen, you need to specify what to replace the old vehicle with.
Did you do that?

Also, please read the autorenew and autreplace pages at the wiki. How to use them should be explained there.

the upgrade button in the depot is intended to be used like this:

1. send a train [plane, truck, ...] to depot
2. pause the game
3. set an autoreplace rule from the train [plane, truck, ...] list->manage list->autoreplace
4. hit the upgrade button
5. remove the autoreplace rule again
6. unpause the game

this way, you can replace individual trains without affecting the rest of the network/vehicle group.
