AI not working in multiplayer

Hi, I'm trying out the multiplayer in OpenTTD with a buddy over LAN. The problem is, the AI isn't working. To be more specific, the AI never enters the game, even when I've set it to start one day after I start playing. I have also tried downloading different AIs, but nothing helps. Any ideas what a solution could be?
Edit: I found out now that the AI isn't working in single player either.

For multiplayer, make sure that the option 'Allow AIs in mutiplayer' under Advanced Settings/Competitors/Computer players is turned on.
And for the singleplayer, how much did you wait? Did you download those AIs from the content downloader or the forums? Anyway, try this one:
If the AI company doesn't appear in the company list, open the console (by pressing the button left to the 1 on your keyboard) and then type start_ai. If that doesn't help, post it here.

You can also open console via menu (for strange keyboards users)
