OpenTTD has unstable multiplayer

My friend seems to have a problem when it comes to OpenTTD's internet play.

It worked fine the first few times, and it didn't have any problems - we were able to play fine for ten years each time...and now, he joins, and it usually fails within 10 seconds to 5 minutes. It's very inconvenient to have him constantly rejoin over and over just so we can play another 5 minutes...it's also this way with online public servers as well. Other games have no problems when it comes to net play, and he's running on a very stable wireless connection.

How can we make it so OpenTTD's net play is more stable, like it was the first few times we played?

Then get your friend to post here. It's hard enough talking to the person who is having the problem; we don't need our instructions shoveled through an extra set of mangling.

it is funny how, as soon as some networking issue shows up, of course it's OpenTTD's fault!
