Differnce between regular GRF and GRF with W on the end?

Ok, so I downloaded NHFoundations. Inside of the zip file there were two GRF files. The first one was nhfoundations.grf and the second was nhfoundationsw.grf. What is the difference between the two? The only thing I can think of is that the W means wide. I also encountered this same thing with The Metro Track Set.

Back then in the past GRF files were created for TTDPatch (for TTD), which had 2 versions, for DOS and WINDOWS.
The graphics were different (mainly pallette of colors), so to distnct them, those with "W" were for Window (and OTTD was using Win ones)

Now it doesn't matter which version you are using in OTTD since you can change type of palette inside the game
