My Swiss Scenario

The original scenario is "Italy Scenario v.035" by Mikima, so really they should get all the credit for the Italian towns and the heightmap stuff. I just noticed that there was no swiss towns whatsoever so i added all of them, with the roads and so forth.

Main characteristics :
  • Title : Switzerland and Italy
    Difficulty : Hard
    Size : 2048 x 2048
    Climate : Sub-Arctic
    Relief : Mountainous
    Towns : Hundreds of thousands
    Industries : Thousands
    Real world : yes
    OpenTTD Version : 0.6.0
Used GRFs : SEE ATTACHED SCREENSHOT.
Author : Original scenario was Mikima, but modified by me (Jake Grimshaw)
Version history :

v1.0 Released 04/09/09

Relief :
The map terrain was created by Mikima, from a heightmap. Includes the majority of the Alps, and flat areas of Italy.

Rivers and seas :
All sea bordering Italy, plus many Swiss lakes, a few French lakes.

Remarkable places :

Many notable peaks, including Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Eiger etc (All labelled with heights)
Many mountain passes, labelled with heights.

Towns :
Main cities include Roma, Milano, Torino, Geneva, Bern, Grenoble.

Industries :
Completely random and irrelevant, as the Swiss Set taster i am using does not include freight wagons.

Useful resources :

Wikipedia - for information about town populations and peaks.
Google Maps - to locate towns, peaks, lakes.

Scenario Files: The scenario can be found here.
GRF Files: The NewGRF files can be found here.

HELP NEEDED.

In order for this scenario to be pushed through, i desperately need a few people that have knowledge of either France, Austria or Northern Italy to help me situate a few places, as i am having trouble doing some areas. If i attach the in-game maps, it would be appreciated if you could just write on a few of the most major cities/ places of transport importance. I shall suggest a few of the major places in the caption for the screenshot.

Greatly appreciated :)

The 3 towns you requested, and the two major lakes in the area.

If anyone think my placement is a bit off please say so.

I have done, that was my first thought, but it is difficult to see accurately where some valleys are on those sites. And i thought i could take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that some people have on here, particularly those that might live near there.

[EDIT] It is my understanding that the Chambery is a bit closer to real life in maselbe's map, but i didn't think Grenoble was down there.

since i cannot edit the original post on the forum (is blocked) i've added to the wiki the work's license. so you can redistribuite the modified scenario until you use the same license (Share Alike 2.5).
Now i want to see the scenario :D!

OK, here is is my contribution :

1°) See the map to locate the 2 main rivers, the 2 lakes, and 29 towns.
2°) See the list below for towns' populations. Towns in bold font are the biggest ones ; towns in underlined font are those for which I made a syntax mistake on the map -_-; (the syntax is wrong on the map, right in the underlined text).

Saint-Claude : 11 950 // Nantua : 3 693 // Ambérieu-en-Bugey : 12 709 // Bellegarde-sur-V. : 11 497 // Belley : n 8 466 // Bourgoin-Jallieu : 23 517 // La Tour-du-Pin : 7 500 // Annecy : 52 890 // Aix-les-Bains : 27 982 // Chambéry : 59 188 // Voiron : 20 672 // Vinay : 3 525 // Megève : 4 139 // Albertville : 43 225 // Beaufort (or Beaufort-sur-Doron) : 2 264 // Villard-de-Lans : 4 400 // Grésy-sur-Isère : 1 243 // Le Touvet : 2 824 // Grenoble : 156 107 // Bourg-Saint-Maurice : 8 016 // Moûtiers : 4 151 // Val d'Isère : 1 753 // Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne : 9 186 // Modane : 3 739 // Bourg-d'Oisans : 3 412 // La Grave : 487 // La Mure : 8 954 // La Bérarde : 106 // Saint-Firmin : 438

I hope this wil help you continuing your scenario.
I'm looking forward to seeing this scenario finished :)
See you.

Totally off topic and with the risk off sounding like a noob, but how do you get those railroads in a scenario ? I thought you could only build roads and canals ?

but how do you get those railroads in a scenario
What exactly do you mean ? How do you build railways ?

I think he means something like "How do you build railroads in the scenario editor".
Is this correct ?
It looks good... but I think the "Lac du Bourget" is rather located like in my post, i.e. a little more east, like on the following satellite picture from the 'Géoportail' website.

Thanks for your help.
"How do you build railroads in the scenario editor".
I haven't, i have been building them in a normal game and then renaming the 'Switzerland.sav' file to 'Switzerland.scn' file.

Right, excuse the double post, but this scenario will be available sometime next week. However, i thought i would give out the ideal NewGRF list in advance, as some of these are REALLY vital to make the game look the way it should (as without the town packs, nearly all towns will have tonnes of tower blocks :( ). Ok so attached is my NewGRF list for this scenario, plus another one which shows which of the original ones are actually vital IMO. As always, the order is very important, particularly for things like trees, roads and caternary.

If anyone has any major problems obtaining these, PM me as i should be able to send them to you as none are for private use only. Obviously the Swiss Set and the 2cc-Set aren't vital, but i think they best depict the area.

I think that's a great project, and it will be a grate scenario!

I think any *ideal* NewGRF list would not use a version of the 2ccset that is around half a year old.
