Driving to work this afternoon, bout 15.10 ish, heading north on the A1 somewhere between Doncaster (J.37) and the M62 junction, when all the traffic started bunching up. Presumed it was lorries overtaking eaching other but, as I rounded a corner, all became clear and I was met with a most unusual sight!
Anyone any idea where it was going to/coming from and what number it is?

It was either 73104 on the way to Barrow Hill from the Weardale Railway, or 73134 on the way TO the Weardale from Allely's. Given the state of it, I'd go with the latter.
Happy Days!

So what headcode would this run under? Rail replacement services seem to be getting quite extreme...

It looked like utter s***, all rusted down the right hand side!

I don't actually know...
Studley, in Warwickshire apparently.
So if it was heading south, it was 73104, if it was north, 73134?
But I think 73104 is a working example... Both have been in IC livery so that doesn't narrow it down.

Actually, I think it might be the other way round an "error" in reporting, as WNXX reports 73104 at the Weardale and 73134 at Barrow Hill.
73134 is the working example. 73104 hasn't been preserved as such...
Who knows

It was heading north without a doubt.
