My Open TTD SaveGame (Need Advice)

Post by LorenzoxD »

Here's my Open TTD save game . I didnt use any GRF's , Just the basic ones (default).

Using Open TTD 0.6.3

Its a small map 128x128.

And maybe someone can give me some advice or apply some changes.

Greets, LorenzoxD

PS: is there a fast way of changing all the Railroads? Cause when i get through the years i unlock monorail and i change everthing into monorail tracks , but all the trains are still old. Which can't drive on monorail. then i have to buy a new train in a new depot and take over the stats (go to..., unload, full load) isn't there a quicker way.

What version are you using?

1) Avoid "2*45° turns" (two 45° turns to the same direction on two successive tiles), they slow down trains
2) Get some GRFs, they are a lot more fun to play with
3) One rail station can never cover whole town, use more stations or feeder bus/tram services to get more passengers.
4) Take the goods/passengers across longer distances, the trains will be far more profitable this way.
5) I guess you are using too many mail wagons
6) Don't play flat maps, hilly countries are much more challenging and fun to play :)

Your station-entries are identical to mine (Two tracks, with a crossover, one-way in and out) -- You can make these more efficient by using pre-signals. Control-click the in-signal once, and both platform signals twice. This means if both platforms are full, a train will wait outside the station, so a train can leave.

There is the OpenTTDCoop pack which contains everything you could ever need.

There are 3 grf's I allways use:
- Industrial Stations Renewal v 0.8.0
- New Stations v 0.44 by Michael Blunck
- Total Town Replacement Set

The main thing is to having fun playing and experimenting. Don't play like others, play like yourself.

But anyways, I've had a quick look at your savegame, and there is a few things to remember:

- Avoid "2*45° turns" (two 45° turns to the same direction on two successive tiles), they slow down trains.
- One rail station can never cover whole town, use more stations or feeder bus/tram services to get more passengers.
- Take the goods/passengers across longer distances, the trains will be far more profitable this way.
- Passengers are more important than mail.
- There is no point in adding two-way lines with only one train.
- Try connecting your lines with eachother. (Experimenting is important, don't just copy what's on the wiki.)
- I see that you have got depots everywhere, but there is no need for them as breakdowns are disabled. Try removing them when you have added the trains you need.
- Try making every line equal when adding signals. Example:
---------------->
<---------------
I have attached a savegame with some changes 2 post down.

Ok , thanks for the GRF's . I've also looked on GRFCrawler for some GRF's . And i got another question: on several SaveGames i see like those cities with 100.000 people on it and Fully build, no room left . I would like to make that too  , anyone any suggestions of how to improve that on my savegame? or is it good this way and will it grow in time?

I had some problems in the start too, and had to figure everything out on my own, and I dint want that to happen to others.
