Bethlehem Central Map

i made this map so i can play with plastik's east coast engines and cars through the mountains of pennsylvania. the idea was have a map between bethlehem and philly. this is not a realistic map in any way. i just wanted a map with couple mountain passes, and the potential for high freight traffic, and electric engines and cars.

as most people that know railroading in north america bethlehem steel mill are some of the best known in the country.

on this map i am posting you start in 1940 when electric on prr was taking off, plus other railroads desiels are hitting the scene. you have to move 100k in steel to win. plenty of close coal mines near the mill to make good cash in the beginning so you can build out of the valley to other side fo the map. the passes are not narrow, and some places wide, but they are not smooth, you have to bull doze and snake your tracks to get through the pass. i colored the mountains differently from the west coast mountains, the ones in the east coast are much more green. so i left the mountains green and sprinkled dry grass on them hoping to get the desired effect.

you need provo installed, and megapack, automod, dk packs, and the advanced lumber pack.

in game shots can be found here in this thread: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=41203

Intresting map,

Since I am stuck on vaction for a bit longer then expected. I got bored and downloaded it.

A few things I noticed. you have food plants and food cars, but, no method of making food.
I turned on the auto dealers just incase i can actually make an automobile (the spacing on the map might make it impossible).
I also noticed the distance from the forest > lumber yard > paper mill > printing press is a long haul... sheesh. I'm going to have to work hard for some paper (if i even bother)... I would think the there would be a closer lumber yard :P

I noticed some huge gaps in the NA set for cars that are missing, like steel and grain in this era.

a few things i did to spice up the selection of trains:
I got rid of what I cant use (food)
I got rid of all CSX and went NS only (one could go the other way if they are a CSX fan).
I added steamers and more passenger equipment (PRR and NYC. I had C&O and B&O but dumped em due to limit).
I only took Baggage, coach and obs cars to save dats.
I added the MP54's
I got rid of a few extra items that were west coast like the tank train.
I turned on the Acella\east coast trains and turbos, I might as well use iit if i have electric strung  .

Obviously this is a "reason to run eastern trains" and not a realistic map. this leaves some room for imagination in what anyone would select.

Anywho.. My train is about to pull out and ill be back off the internet for a few days. i'll post some shot of how this game goes...

Edit: did i forget the black amtrak? shhesh.. how did that happen?

An enyable map to play but I'm having a bit of difficulty I don't have anyway of moving either the plastic pellets or steel in the scenario.

Has anyone else come across this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it?

grain cars can move the pellets, and steel are you talking about steel or scrap steel? you may have had to mod it.

I am not sure if therre is stuff in the LPS set that can help you or not.. ther are grain and steel cars in it. i dont think there is plastik yet.

as i recall, this map needed a lot of player reworking to get running. i ended up abandoning this map very quickly..

I'm not saying it is bad, I was just a bit no up to bluebeetles standards in mapmaking.. i think i just played a differant map of his since ther are so many..

I am sure that with a bit of retooling. it can be a good map. maybe i might take a look at it and see if i can help this map some at a later date..

From the screenshots he posted, that map looks like YellowPass in some spots. Mainly the side where the forests are and the other side where the trains come out of the mountains going to the place where they process the lumber. Can't think what it's called right now.

I just played this one but I got so frustrated with it I had to quit. It was all good running coal to the closest steelmill near Bethlehem, but when I went to get ironore going, I ran into trouble. I had 4 lanes set up so they had a place to go while waiting to enter the station but they would only go into one lane and back up clogging the trains from reaching the other stations. There's not much room where the ironore mines are and I just couldn't get it working so I gave up. It's challenging map and I want to play but I can't seem to get it working right. Thanks for the map tho. I'll it again later. I'm going to check out some of your other ones. You got a nice lil collection from me to choose from. They'll keep me busy for a while...
