It would be Great to have the option to show the Catchment Area of exsisting Stations - thus you could easily see where to best place a new Station

Every once in a while, someone actually makes a good suggestion.

And there was even a patch having this. At least I remember having contributed such a part to a patch called "zoning" or something similar, but I'm not sure whether it was published.

You beat me posting it Skyruner2..
But it seems you found something else than I did:

But that one is also pretty old now and (according to a dev's post in the flyspray topic) seems to have had some issues as well..

Reminds me of an idea i had....have park and ride stations....like normal stations except they can only be placed so many tiles from a city/town centre and they have much larger catchment areas for passengers.
Gets complicated though...because with a large catchment you could end up drawing passengers from the city you're trying to get them too.
In fact...bad idea...forget it..i'll keep using feeder buses to get my passengers to my park and ride stations.
The only way to do it would be to create a wholenew industry and cargo called 'commuters'...and i don't see that being popular.

"Commuters" as well as "Tourists" should not be different cargo than "Passengers". they should be able to be mixed in the same wagons, i.e. be subclasses of the same cargo
the only difference should be when they are used in Cargodest, the possible destinations are generated differently.
- commuters (outbound) are generated in houses and should go to a near industry
- commuters (inbound) are generated in industries and should go to a near house
- tourists (outbound) are generated in houses and should go to a far away tourist centre
- tourists (inbound) are generated in tourist centres and should go to a far away house
- other passengers are generated in houses and should go to a medium distance house
tourists could be generated seasonal
other possible passenger classes could be pupils (go to a near school and back in large groups at the same time)
