Mini-Maps

Post by SpComb »

So in a fit of creative boredom, I fiddled around a bit with the OpenTTD code to try and achieve something interesting. Click on the pictures for non-scaled-down versions.

More screenshots. Now try and make a profit on those maps :)

Some low-quality code.

Looks interesting, but I don't know how practical that is. 64x64 is so small already.

Since you asked...

There's no towns, though, so the gameplay kind of sucks :(

Note that that's actually a 2x2 map, but two edges are void tiles.

Also, airport-sized maps, couldn't build any planes though, for some reason:

EDIT: Not that that stops you from having a 1x1 map with a single void tile... just disable the terrain gen bits that do modulo-by-zero:

The ultimate in minimalist zen OpenTTD gameplay style.

This begs the question (well, I'm not sure it does, but it is an interesting question nonetheless) - what is the minimum size for a map in order to have a playable game - i.e. connecting a source and a consumer with a form of transport to earn revenue?

Another question - what is the minimum size for a map to have a playable game where the user can earn revenue AND be profitable on "standard" latest stable release settings?

64x64 should be possible in single player, and possible also multiplayer.

I once played a 128x64 that had 3 towns and a few industries on multiplayer with 4-5 players on it. That is quite an interesting kind of game too.

32x32 maps should be playable with passenger service, with one road station per side, otherwise busses might lose money

No, it does not.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
