A shock for NXEC passengers

Rather amusingly (for me anyway) the 20.15 Leeds - London King's Cross service was cancelled this evening, no idea why though. (Anyone shed some light?)
The poor sods who were to travel on it were bundled on to Northern's 20.20 Leeds - Doncaster all stations service, a service formed by a 4-car 321 which normally only sees a handful of punters (including me on the way home to Adwick having been in Manchester earlier).
To say these people looked shocked and suprised would be an understatement! No air-con, no trolley service/buffet, no wi-fi, just a lack of leg space and the very loud "doors are open" pings that scared the member of NXEC staff sat opposite me!
The conductor announced that they were attempting to the hold the 21.05 Doncaster - King's Cross for these misplaced passengers, the Northern service not due in Doncaster until 21.06. Whether this happened I don't know, it was down 5 mins when I hopped off. The next London wasn't until 21.52 which, by the sound of a few frantic phone calls, would cause people to miss connections/last trains home etc!

Damage to overhead lines near Newark apparently - your passengers were lucky, as some trains were stuck for six hours overnight!

NXEC passengers are still paying for Maggie electrifying on the cheap with their time.

According to local news the delays were quite bad, 8 and a half hours from King's Cross to Hull!

Fun night for some people then! I even asked the NXEC staff sat opposite me why the service was cancelled, all I got was a shrug of the shoulders and a mumbled "dunno". She was a miserable cow anyway!

I've just been looking on Live Departure Boards.

One train was delayed by five hours twenty six minutes.

Unholy.
