Switching Maglev and Monorail

Hi,

i have used the board-search and didn't fin anything, so i have to ask. I hope it is in the correct part of the forum.

What I want to do is changing Maglev and Monorail. AFAIR there was a featur in TTDPatch to do this, but I didn't found it on OTTD.
Why do I want to do this? The Transrapid from The DB-Set is not a Maglev and looks for me quite horrible on the Maglev-Tracks...

If you search on grfcrawler, you can find some transrapid track graphics that replace the maglev tracks with some better ones... if that doesn't take your fancy, there are always others out there too.

Actually, the Transrapid is a maglev. It's just that the default maglev tracks look quite different than the tracks what the actual Transrapid sits on.

That feature from TTDPatch you're referring to does not exist in OpenTTD. In OpenTTD, monorail stays monorail and maglev stays maglev; they can't be combined in one of both.
And like Gremnon said, I also recommend my Transrapid tracks  , see link below.

Hi,

I have tried your grf, looks really nice :-)

Is there a grf or something like that which allows to change only the graphics? I would code if I could but I can't...

What do you mean? The transrapid track NewGRF does only change the graphics.

Hi,

I mean to change the "original" Graphics. The original Monorail and the original Maglev.

If you change the original graphics, they cease to be the original graphics.
Unless you have a time machine.

The DBSet´s TR should be fine either with monorail and with maglev tracks. (At least it is in TTDPatch).

I think he means a grf to make maglev look like the original monorail and monorail look like the original maglev, to archieve at least the effect of the train going on the original monorail track (graphically, not gameplay-wise).

Such a grf does not exist to my knowledge. I do not know if it is possible to make a grf that just switches the existing graphics without having them included again. If it's not, it would be a problem to publish such a grf because it would contain the original = copyrighted graphics.

And @michael I think he meant that:
[...] The Transrapid from The DB-Set is not a Maglev and looks for me quite horrible on the Maglev-Tracks...
in a personal way, not objective.
(e.g. he doesn't like it)

(PS: sorry for butting in here and making assumptions about what someone else means)

As I understand it, he simply wants to use the TR on monorail track. And indeed, the TR may be used with both track systems, at least in TTDPatch by setting the electrifiedrailways switch accordingly.

O/c, I don´t know if OTTD can provides both monorail and maglev for a train vehicle. In any case, the TR in the DB Set uses both monorail and maglev veh-IDs to accomplish this.

Well, at least he´s wrong: the TR is a maglev vehicle. 8)

OTTD doesn't have anything like that...

Creating a grf which switches the monorail and maglev graphics is fairly easy, but you indeed would have this copyright issue. Unless you'd use the OpenGFX graphics instead, then your free to do whatever you want as long as whatever you publish is available under the GPL license.

Hi,

to say something:

--> In the way, the game draws the Maglev, the Transrapid is not what the game draws. The System, the game-graphic shows is a system invented by japanese Ingeneurs, the magnets are on the left and on the right of the Loco. The graphic from the Wikipedia shows the difference:
Transrapid (DB-Set): Imagehttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/d ... bebahn.svg
Maglev: Imagehttp://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:JR_Maglev-Guide.png

Because of this, the Monorail-Tracks are more suitable for the Transrapid than the Maglev-Tracks.

--> @Michael: If the Patch would provide maps larger than 256x256 I still would use the patch. But since I have plaayed on a large map, I love it. And unfortunatly the Patch does only work on a M$-Windows-System, so I couldn't play it via Network with some frinds of mine (who use Apple-computers...)

--> Are the Graphics from the OpenGFX alreadey drawn for Maglev and Monorail?

Yes, you´re right. TTD´s "maglev" track had been inspired by JR´s maglev system, but the German TransRapid uses a different technology and a different looking track. It has always been felt that TTD´s monorail track might be more adequate for the TR.

I still don't get what you miss in the Transrapid track NewGRF in this respect. It even was designed specifically for the Transrapid, and it does look great with it (IMHO).

Otherwise I wouldn't be suggesting that, would I

Not quite true.. I know that you can emulate Windows with Linux, I highly doubt that you can't with mac.

Now networking with Patch.. Not something I'm too familiar.. :P

Interesting theory. Kinda gets blown to bits when you realize that Patchman hasn't had a Windows box since 2.0.1 alpha 49 was released. Unless you're going to suggest that he released alphas 49-72, and all 9 betas, completely blind?

Well, let me tell you that way: The mates I am playing with didn't get it run on their systems. And I do not use any other system than Windows...
