Licensing of sound effects

I would very much appreciate some informed community advice on licensing of sound effects.

For a newgrf set I am coding, I am considering buying royalty-free vehicle sound effects, from a supplier like http://sounddogs.com/. In my day job, we use these often for game and film sound effects.

Based on the licensing below, are there any reasons why the royalty-free license would be a problem for a newGRF used in OpenTTD?

N.B. I am *not* planning to release the compiled grfs under GPL or creative commons (although I do make the png graphics available from my site).
COPYRIGHT AND LICENSING
Q. Please explain the license.
A. You can use the sounds within any multimedia production for the purposes of synchronization. Examples of usage: Computer games, television shows, films, music, e-cards, flash animations, theater, etc. If you plan to broadcast the project, cue sheets must be filed and some additional fees may be required. Please contact us for details.

Q. What can I not do with the sounds?
A. You can not redistribute the sounds as sounds by themselves, in whole or in part (as is or slightly modified) for a fee or for free.

Q. What does royalty-free mean?
A. A standard, non-license fee agreement to utilize the sounds within any multimedia production.

it's for a game, and you would not be transferring the sound as a sound but coded in a grf - so should not be an issue.
however, my personal opinion would be that purchasing a sound effect is a wee bit over the top... there are also very good contributors to the sound preplacement project - i am sure you can find someone there who will want to help you out with a sound

and what happens if one decompiles the GRF and is given the sound file by GRF codec?

Thanks, I'll look into that. If I do buy some they will only be a few dollars, I won't break the bank :)

Your newGRF is not part of the game, so you can choose license of used files depending on newGRF licensing. Those license posted is even enough suitable to made commercially-distributed newGRF from them. You can also use free sound sources like http://www.freesound.org/index.php.
