Manually controlling train signals

It would be a cool feature to be able to control the train signals manually.
Makes the challenge bigger.
If you are a couple of people in the same company, one could control signals.
Would also be more fun when you do single player.

What do you think ? Signal Control Central.

Soo, kinda like Sierra's 3-D ( lol ya right isometric sprites) Ultra Traintown. You control everything and drive the trains.. more of a simulation game than a tycoon game.

Perhaps this isnt the right thing for openttd. It fails to pass the relevance requirement.

If you are looking for a simulation of centralized traffic control, I suggest you try SimSig. It is available for free.

Forcing you to do this with your own network in OpenTTD would be interesting. However, it would be a lot of work.

Messing about with the signals like this would be a lot of work for the player,
making the feature unneccesary, but probably a lot of fun.

I imagine having too much money to spend, (i know you remember what that feels like)
and play around with the trains in a SimSig sort of way.

If it's difficult to implement, i don't think anoyone would bother.
Perhaps you could try and make a patch for us?

I don't really see the use of it. OpenTTD is about transporting stuff not about such kind of micro management.

There is no any reason to do this in openttd. That is not really what the game is about. Besides. You can click the button in train window that overrides red signal and makes train go (can lead to crash but useful to solving deadlocks, if they appear).

If someone writes a patch for it that is simple, completely optional and doesn't mess with any other features, I don't see why it couldn't be a feature. I don't think I'd use it, at least not on a regular basis, but still, if a lot of people do like it: why not?

You mean, besides the extra maintenance load on the devs?

Well, yes. There would have to be a dev that likes it I guess.

This could be good when solving train jams, but I see no other use for it

It's fun. Fairly simple concept!

i would find this interesting and fun in the late stages when i have so much money that the game is boring and im wasteing time and money and raising from sea level and creating trains that run around the edge of the map from oil rigs/wells to refinieries. it would be a nice toy but not a very good feature in that respect as well as the fact that overall it does not improve gameplay.
