OTTD - Coal Optimizer Scenario

Post by KobeSans »

A Coal Optimizer Scenario.

This is kinda fun scenario if your looking for something different. I keep coming back to it now and then.

Haul the coal all the way across the map, then pick up more coal and haul it back in a compact loop.

The best way I have found is to run one loop first, have 4 loops with 3 stations each, running about 35 trains each. You can run about 22-25 trains on a single station single loop, but I like the 3 station/loop configuration.

Don't forget to put in one way flags on the loops, and get a train going before you complete the track

One loop with 4 full stations 7x7 + 5x7 costs 600k to setup

In 1938 trains average 350k/year with a 0 to 750k variance.

You should be able to keep the trains loaded 99.9% of the time.

I have played this on hard with AI competion but it involves A LOT of depot placements on the tracks, and blocking off the furture train stations with tracks, and coming up with 600k takes a while in hard.

I'm not braggin on the picture, I left the fast forward on for a bunch of years completing the loops hehe woops, the ramp up in operating profit going from 35 trains on the inside track to 140 trains. It takes a while to levelize when you start 35 trains all at once.

Good luck,

Enjoy

With OpenTTD configure patches you can say if multiple of the same industries can be put down per town. And you can also fund new primary industries. Though making multiple next to eachother is also a mystery for me. Though maybe you just can.

Did anybody get the transport so fast that coal trains actually had to wait for their coal? After the first one, ofcourse.

Of course, just a matter of creating a big enough station at both ends. With a tripple mainline (2x 3 tracks) and 12 platforms (well 24, 12 for loading and 12 for unloading) I have my 143 trains waiting for their coal. But the real challenge should be in limiting the number of platforms and/or trains one is allowed to use, only then the advantage of building an efficient station becomes clear.

I am now running the mine line with two main lines in each direction. The trains are a bit longer, which could make a difference. However, I used only one set of chimera's per train, so their acceleration is a bit slow. This causes relatively large gaps between the trains. Still the production is not back to the original level of 1935, with over 2k/month for each mine.
