[OTTD] Generic Cars [v0.4] 22/02/2010

Generic cars
6 cars with multiple colour schemes and sound effects to liven up your cities.

v0.4 now available; download here. Original grf by me (Zephyris) with many great tweaks and updates by PikkaBird.

The old first post:
Just a little fun: Generic cars.
6 cars for 1920 to 2050, replacing the default buses (IDs 00 to 05), in dual company colours.

Instructions:
Use like any other GRF, bear in mind these replace the default buses. You may want to load with the "load multiple grf sets" option in the latest OpenTTD nightlies so as not to replace these vehicles.

Known issues:
File size. These sprites have a lot of extraneous transparent blue around them resulting in an increased file size.
Some odd pixels. These sprites are 3D renders with no pixel tweaking, some pixels (eg. 2cc on the roof or the Vauxhall and Fiat) are dodgy.

Maybe you should consider renaming the Vauxhall to Opel as soon as the drive side is changed to right hand side :lol:

I couldn’t resist this. :D The little cars look great and look even more cute next to Andy’s trucks. They certainly try some dangerous overtaking manoeuvres though. ;)

I would like it. IIRC it has been suggested before but I don't know if a patch got anywhere - there would be quite a processing cost...

We REALLY need a traffic system to make use of these.

Edit: Go for it Gremnon! :D I bet people would go crazy for a feature like that.

Traffic has been suggested and turned down often - this is TT, not SimCity. However, lots of people might still like it, so you can try and give it a go. I'd suggest you keep it simple - implement is as an extra AI player with invisible stations and cars without running costs or prices.

I'll get to that just as soon as I can work out how to get it to work with the existing code without slowing it down.
Something tells me I should stick to something a little more simple for my first patch, but I'll try it anyway.

Other way round ;) Opel is the European distributor of Vauxhall. The Astra is the Opel Astra on the continent and the Vauxhall Astra in the UK.

Gremnon: I'd definately suggest to start out with something simple. See the patches I've done so far (can be seen on my wiki page) - only the very small and simple ones went into trunk ;)

Actually I have tried out some stuff in the direction of traffic and I got the impression that it's not quite easy to do...

I think the right hand side is ambiguous, one of you is referring to the side of the road and the other the driver side, making you both right.
