Planes make it too easy

I was bored so I attempted that old TTDX $100 million challenge on hard difficult using just planes with regular 512x512 map and no beneficial patches.
Starting in 1950, with just the (hard mode) 100k loan, I got my $100 million before the year 1962, with just over 90 planes.
The only 'cheat' I used was to buy 75% of 3 competitors that looked like they had a future early on and selling them just as I reached $100 mil (an extra 2 mil)...had I waited 10 seconds, I would have got it anyway.
In fact, I let it run on fast mode after that, and the value shoots through the roof, by 1970 without adding any input whatsoever even though 6 planes had crashed - the value is at 4 times that, by 1980, despite losing over 10 planes - I hit 1 billion.
I'm not trying to brag or anything, surely if you tried very hard, stop starting and tuning your planes to go to heavier traffic airports you could probably get it much faster.
The point is with little to no effort, just placing a few airports down and sticking a few planes to fly between them, you can easily make money, much faster than trains ever could.
