New Graphics question

Hi all,

Have been out of the loop for ages, so please forgive me if I'm wrong, but I heard the 32bpp project is still remaining very much in 2d like OTTD is now? If it is, instead of using blender, would it be acceptable to use photoshop? I suck at 3D, and have CS3, coupled with about 6 months free time a year :P

well yea you can, only if your a really great at drawing stuff on photoshop! Or else you could draw sprites for the 8bpp newgfx project, which basically is pixel art that has to be done on photoshop.

Are you a salesperson for Adobe?

There is no reason in the slightest that it *has* to be done in Photoshop.

I personally have done graphics using The GIMP, and at Uni I know people that use Paint.NET. Both are free (as in beer).

Also if you have Windows (any version since... 3.1 I think) Then you'll have MSPaint, that's not a bad start for pixel art.

That should cover you fine without having to spend £560 (over $1000)

Except for some of Paint.net's resources, they're both also free as in speech.

As it's already been brought up in this topic somewhat...are there any guides anywhere on making the sprites for the 8bpp, or new GRFs in general? There's presumably a fixed palette to be used, but I can't find what it is :(
