OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ever since I Installed ver 6.0, my aircraft seem to fly oh so slow compared to everything else! Why is that? What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

Go into Configure Patches-Vehicles and right near the bottom change Plane Speed Factor to 1/1

Aircraft have been slower (moving at 1/4 of their speed) since TTO.

Yes, but in nighlty builds they have been altered to have "full speed" for some time ... but some time ago this thing was made configurable, but unfortunately the default is to have them at the slow original speed.

Well they are balanced at the original speed.

Increasing their speed is really a cheat, imho.

Depends what you call "balanced"... In my games I have aircraft speed at 1/2, which I think is most realistic in comparison with the other stuff. 1/4 is just way too slow, unrealistically slow, and besides that definitely not balanced to whatever you want to balance it

I like having my planes fly at 1/1 speed because it seems silly to have your maglevs running faster than your super-sonic planes. That being said, plane initial / running costs ought to be higher so as to reflect their massive revenue generating abilities. Seems silly to have a plane paying for itself 6 months after its purchase.

First of all, who said Aircrafts are cheaters? They ain't! They are fast because that why there were made in the first place, do transport stuff from point A to point B faster then any other transportation way.

For example, if we take one German maglev and a Airplane and put them to straighth line to see who's faster transporting 100 passengers it will be a plane. Why? Again for their purpose. And now you call that unrealistic? Ok it may be a little in the game but still it's not.

Best medicen for this problem is: Disable them from your options.

You could use my GRF to balance it, If you find "good" values, let me know. ;-)

"Good" values in this case can't really be realistic ones. They are in fact much, much higher than what you see ingame. Though irl the incomes through planes are also much higher (a fully loaded Boeing 747 can easily have a revenue surpassing $1.000.000 by far on a single flight). If you'd really want to make things realistic you would have to rebuild the whole economical structure of TTDX. For instance, a Boeing 747 costs around $600.000.000 in real life, in TT the equivalent (if you use standard planes; Darwin 300) costs less then $5.000.000....

And where you will get the money in the game when you can only use a airplane only? (because options and scenario is made so)

Start with very, very small aircraft... Cessna 172 (2 or 4-seater) costs around $200.000 in real life (and that's usually what you start with) :P

But as I said, those realistic numbers can't be implented in TT unless the economical structure would be rebuilded completely...

As I always point out when this debate on aircraft balance resurfaces... rail infrastructure is *incredibly* *unrealistically* cheap. The main line from Paris to Calais cost multiple *billions*. The cost of the train is trivial in comparison (<2%). If aircraft are despised in OTTD for being "too profitable" and players demand realistic costs/purchase prices to "balance" them, then perhaps the rail lobby should start paying realistic prices for their rail infrastructure. Mainline? 50million/km.

Personally I think it is a fun game - reality is the thing to get away from. ;)

Well, in real life, plane takes much fewer than month to get from start to destination. Trains also usually need less time than 6 months to deliver the goods (few days usually even on very long trips). Most values for costs, distances and upkeep are made up, not realy reflecting reality ...

I would rather put it this way: cost figures are just all scaled down. So you get revenue monthly rather than daily, but then pay correspondingly less for everything. Really it would be more realistic to increase it all, but oh well.
BTW don't forget the IRL inflation. Prices in TTD seem weighed for 1930, and still understated there.
One way out is using a "cheaper" currency for the scale.

But on the subject - yeah, there should be a mod making the aircraft more realistically priced, for balance at realistic speed. I'd even make one, but AFAIK it involves code digging I lack skill at.

FWIW, both the planeset and av8 detect the planespeed setting and adjust running costs accordingly.
