Should i get the patch?
hi (first post so get that out of the way)
i downloaded TTD at 10 PM last ight and it has already eaten away at 8 hours of my life (not bad seeing as it's running XP on an ME machine that was rubbish in the first place)
i love TTD but i dont' know werather to get the patch now or enjoy what it starts off with and download in a few months after a few 100 year cycles?
any suggestions?
p.s can anyone tell me exactly what the patch adds to the game? the werbsite and Wikipedia were a little too vague.
thanks all

Re: Should i get the patch?
I suggest you just install the patch and see for yourself.
You have to run ttdpatchw.exe after you installed it instead of gamegfx.exe like you do now. So going back to plain TTD is easy, just run gamegfx.exe instead of ttdpatchw.exe.
(!!!you can't however play back to plain TTD with the same game, so use it on a new fresh game only!!!)
After the first run, ttdpatch creates a config file in which you can set each option to your liking.
This file also gives you a fairly good idea of what the patch can do for you, so I suggest you read it.
In the grfcrawler you can see the enhancements made to the plain TTD graphics.
Some of these graphics also change gameplay a lot, or better stil improve gameplay a lot.

Everything listed in the manual.Speggy wrote:p.s can anyone tell me exactly what the patch adds to the game?
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Re: Should i get the patch?
Is quite good, but i would recommend OpenTTTD.
Currently i have both and play the patch occasionally.

Re: Should i get the patch?
i've tried the patch and find it overcomplicates trains and causes genral slowdown (lag) on my pc. (thats what i get for running XP on a ME machine )
so i've turned off most things other than the "mammoth Trains" and no crashes.
maby i'll try the patch full when i get a new PC on my 16th (oct 2008)
Thanks guys/girls!

There is no ME PC.
What is your hardware dude? If your PC is old XP is not suitable for it.

Windows ME (Mellenium Edition) can be run on basicly any computer as it is kind of Windows 98 Third Edition. Should be able to run XP SP2 on it fine then play TTDPatch.

Re: Should i get the patch?
Can TTD Patch run on ME? It runs on Windows 98SE better than it did on a machine with exactly the same specs with XP installed.
Re: Should i get the patch?
Wait, wait wait. Ofcouse it would run better, because what your saying is.Comeng 523M wrote:Can TTD Patch run on ME? It runs on Windows 98SE better than it did on a machine with exactly the same specs with XP installed.
Windows 98Second Edition - Tycoon Runs Perfect
Windows X - (Same comp and hardware as 98SE) - Runs slow.
Thats because having 98SE Hardware and parts on a XP computer is crazy! Im suprised you can even run Windows XP with that old of a computer.
Will work with ME

Silly boy! XP can be run on any machine that has sufficient resources and obviously his 98 box has plenty of those. I only wish my 98 box were so well endowed. . If anybody has some old p100 sticks lying around, I can provide them with a good home.leno4 wrote: Im suprised you can even run Windows XP with that old of a computer.

Re: Should i get the patch?
Probably because the resources are at the bottom of XP requirements, which means it will run, but at a snail's pace. In my case, I could never see any good reason to abandon a system that works for what I need. I currently have 7 apps running quite nicely thank you, which isn't bad for a 98SE box with a 300Mhz CPU and 196MB of RAM.leno4 wrote:Well if he's computer that is running windows 98SE has enough resourses to run XP. Re: Should i get the patch?
As I 've already said I have a dozen vintage PCs here. With XP a P166 will run as a snail, but with ME it kicks ...

Well, TTDPatch and OTTD are computer applications, so when the question comes up as to whether or not to use them, a healthy computer discussion is perfectly natural.leno4 wrote:Jeez this topic has to have a new title. "Computer Talk" or sometin lolz

Re: Should i get the patch?
Windows ME will be fine as long as he gets all the hotfixes from microsoft.
If he is lucky, he should get Windows 2000 Professional instead.
