The sizes are way too big, try this tutorial for proper sizes: http://users.tt-forums.net/purno/PDT/re ... sizes.html

A good start! Try making the red line thinner?

It could use some more shading, everything is the same flat color now.

It is still relevant.

Even if you don't make it smaller your diagonal (/ and \) views are too long in comparison to your horizontal and vertical views. TTD uses an isometric style.

These sizes do not apply to road vehicles, AFAIK. Road vehicles can be bigger.

They can indeed, but that's still a nice comparison on how the sizes of the sprites would be compared to eachother.

Check George's LV4s and his tutorial.

Mistake 1: I suppose you made an articulated vehicle. If yes, front car is missing back wheels!
Mistake 2: || views missmatch: lengths of each car in one | view are opposite from the other | view.
Mistake 3: In _ view front car is way longer than back one. || views do not follow the same proportion.

No, the last thing we need is more sprites that are simply too big for the game and just don't work. Theres a rough scale to vehicles in TTD, the engine is designed to draw sprites of those dimensions. We should not encourage people to draw sprites in a way that will make them glitch in the game.

Original road vehicle sprites had the same sizes as the max sizes for train sprites mentioned in my tutorials. So, you gotta decide yourself you want to draw in this small, limited, scale, or in the bigger, buggy, scale.

1. Well, personal choice.
2. Georges' vehicles have a short version too.

But I didn't have in mind the scale. Just a guide/reference for drawing correctly (proportions, shades...).

Aside from the possible issues with sprite sizes then I think that's a very encouraging first attempt. My suggestion would be to remove the black lines surrounding each of the sides of the vehicle, instead allowing the different faces to be defined by the relative shading on each of them. But promising work, definitely.
