I decided it was time...

to figure out some stuff
I have always been a bit annoyed by the looks of the forest industry, so I tought, time to figure out how to chnage it! Took me a couple of hours, but in the end I had it working
/me is really happy now
I just took one of the trees that was already in game and used that for making my sprites, my main aim was to see if I could do it, and I just took what I tought was the easiest way to do it...
Now, I got all exited about this, so I have to use it for a while in my game now, to see if all stages look correct
And proof:

Well done with that, I dont have the patience for GRF coding, but its good to see someone else getting to grips with it.
Good luck with your graphics!

Well, its kinda nice, and as with other things you make, you get the feeling of creating something, wich is great
Oh yeh, graphics... was kinda hoping someone would jump out of the dark and offering to make me some trees to use for this, as when it comes to graphics, I'm not really that good, tbh
Anyways, i'm gonna try a few different of the ingame trees, but something like the trees in 'stolentrees.grf' would ofcoz be much better. I also wanne change the bottom tile, cause when I was working as a lumberjack, it was very rare to see that many trees in one place that had totally green grass underneat them

So, I did a few changes... Changed the trees, and changed the ground... Looks better?
The offer is still up tough, anybody make a/some tree(s), I can change it again

Use the trees from
OpenGFX Replacement Project... This way you'll contribute to freeing OTTD from some of the copytight issues

Do you mean Zephyris' trees from new Landscape grf?
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=657103#p657103 Well, I havent tried those yet tbh
Will try them now, but dont he have some rights for the use of them? Maybe I should send him a PM and ask if it's OK, so I dont step on anyones toes here... Thanks for the tip tough...

PM would be nice of course.
Your forest could also be included as part of OpenGFX.

Aren't forest industries using solely one type of tree, or am I wrong here?
Anyway; looking very nice!

In game they use one type of tree, in real life they dont
Thanks, glad you like it!

Well, the forests around the city I grew up consisted mostly softwood trees (Pine, Spurce, etc.) and most of the cases only one kind of tree.
You should try to contact George, maybe you can make a replacemen the current graphics in his ECS Wood vector. (The trees in the ECS vector look IMAO a bit strange compared to the rest of the game's graphics)

And since Zephyris said yes to use his trees, I started a new process

Now I'm awaiting his answer to use his tile as ground, and voila; I'm done (for now)
Same up here in the northern europe as down in Germany... Probably the same trees we have, most soft, some hard wood...
The graphics in that ECS forest sure looks nice, I must admit. But it have some coding work done to it, that I cant do... Not even sure if you can rebuild the positioning of the sprites like that trough grf/nfo editing... And, you're right, the kinda look a bit different than the rest of the game... Trees are hard tough, I hear they say its one of the hardest thing to make... Well... that just make me even more envious at those that can

Personally I 'd prefer darker trees. You could also remove some brighter pixels that look out of place.

there seem to be some bright red random pixels standing out.. where do they come from?

Fixed! I didnt notice those red dots (probably becoz I run game in 1280x1024), but I think they should all be gone now... Had to do a lot of retouching to get rid of em, and I think it was a problem caused by me using the ttd palette and Zephyris' graphics uses his optimized palette... Anyways, I think the v0.17 should fix it all...
As for darker, I think I will keep it this bright, so it matches better with the trees they're made from... But then again, now that you said it, I might just have to try it to see what it looks like
Edit: added pic

Trond: Good work, I think it looks quite orchard like, and it's nice with variety; but please keep the conversation to 1 thread, rather than having two parallel conversations on the same thing. Most people have the know how to transfer between threads, so they don't really need informing in both.

Thanks for feedback Ben, and will do, so if anyone have comments etc, put them in the Graphics Replacement Project thread please

They are temporary ones unless someone provides better ones.
If no one would provide new ones unless beta 4, default trees would be used instead

Already thought so..
