[WIP] OpenGFX Stations Extended

As many people like the stations I made for the 8bpp Graphics Replacement Project, I plan on creating an extended station set including those stations.

The set will include:
  • All three stations from the Graphics Replacement Project.
  • At least three additional station designs.
  • A couple of basic platform designs.
  • Underpasses.
  • A few designs for industrial stations.
  • Buffers (both with and without platform).
  • Best of all: you can use all station designs for all rail types.
Please don't ask when the set will be done. I don't know, as the new features still have to be drawn and coded. And code-wise I still have to figure out how this newStations stuff works. Please be patient, it will get done eventually. I'm also doing stuff for the Graphics Replacemet Project, so that will consume time as well.

Because I personally don't like building stations from seperate components (it just takes too much time!), I'll try to incorporate an automatic station layout system. Just pick the design you like and drag the station onto the map. If you are interested in building stations from components yourself, please let me know, and I also might include such a feature.

For now, you have to satisfy your needs with the set for the Graphics Replacement Project, available in the OpenGFX_-_newInfrastructure_v0.2.grf, or without the new infrastructure in the OpenGFX_-_RailStations_v1.0.grf.

Hey
First of all: WOW! These are fantastic. I can't wait to get my hands on the finished version of these.
Were you considering doing a concave roof in the style of the maglev one in the screenshot? That would look fantastic. I cannot wait to see the rest of the set. Keep up the great work.

Foobar, as mentioned in the OpenGFX thread, awesome work.

I like the flexibility of being able to custom build stations. It does depend on how good your 'auto' system will be, however, at the moment Id like to see an individual tile system if that possible?

Thanks guys!

@T-Unit:
I haven't planned a concave maglev style roof, but I could do one if you like!

@Ben_K:
I don't know how good the auto system will be either. Still have to figure that out. But if it works the way I intend it to work, it should be good :mrgreen:
I can always add an individual tile system later, if the automatic system doesn't work for some players.

That'd be great. I think it would look pretty good. I wish I had your artistic talent - im pretty envious. I am planning to learn some C++ this year so i can contribute to OTTD. At the moment the best i can do is give my input and, hopefully, inspire others.

I trust all three station types will be compatible with all three track types?

Awesome work though mate.

Yes, all station types (these three, and all new designs) will be compatible with all three (four) track types.

My suggestion:
Type 1 rail
Type 2 introduced in mono
Type 3 introduced in maglev

A newer type becomes firstly available for newer type of track and after a couple of years for older types of track.

Awesome! I love these stations, especially maglev one (even though I never use maglev).

Can't thank you enough

Very good suggestion, as I have something close to that planned. Problem is that the introduction of mono and maglev depend on vehicle set used (most sets don't even include mono!). I also don't know if there is a way to determine whether a certain track type is available or not.

First of all: I really like your stations, much better than the originals!

Some things for your consideration...:
I think the second / monorail station looks far more futuristic than the maglev one, as so i would if making a seperate set introduce that one as the last one (you can still use the "older one" if you prefer...).
And i don't know, but for people starting before 1950 the first station, atleast the 2 tiles-width one, looks still rather modern, so how about another, very primitive one for those starting very early? ;-)

Keep up the good work!

The design currently used for the railway station, is pretty much the same design as the desings used for the larger railway stations back in the late 1800s, for example: London Paddington station. You might as well add Kings X and St Pancras to that list.

I might do something like London Waterloo, as that dates back to 1848. Of course there will be very basic layouts; some platforms with a shed just to keep your head dry.

I don't think I will switch the monorail and maglev stations. It's currently very plausible to build a station like the monorail one in real life, while the maglev one seems currently impossible, as the fragile design wouldn't stay up in the air.

Thanks for your interest!

In response about how to decide when to allow the stations to be built, you could just set the dates to the original dates of monorail and maglev seeing as some sets like UKRS don't have monorail engines. I do agree with Timitry that the normal rail one does look pretty modern, i could see it being revealed as a design for a station now. So older, less modern looking (and, in our opinion, less aesthetically pleasing) stations would be good to have.

Hi Foobar
First of all let me thank you for the amazing graphics :D :D :D :D . I am looking forward for the entire set's release.
Second is a request - :idea: Could you join the Industrial Renewal set ??? It has some amazing industrial graphics & could be made even better with your help. This request is made since you plan to make some industrial stations also.

Peraeus Metro Station (photos 1, 2), officially opened in 1928. A "miniature" of Milan's Station with its great steel canopies.
Construction in Milan Station (photo 3) resumed in earnest in 1925 and on July 1, 1931 the station was officially opened.
Sounds odd. Replica finished earlier than original. But as it is smaller it is logical. :mrgreen:

Hope the outer side view of Peraeus Metro Station will provide some inspiration...

Don't expect too much of my industrial stations. Those will be simple platforms without passenger facilities. All the other stations I'm going to draw are designed for passenger services; I find it odd to use those for industrial services.

I'll finish this first, and will then see of what use I can be for the Industrial Renewal set. Is there some kind of tracking table to see who's doing what?

@athanasios:
Very nice stations! I guess I won't add not-track tiles (e.g. station buildings), exept the buffers. The outer side of Peraeus will probably not make it to the set, but I do like the three-hinge arched roof!

well, not too hard really, just make the mono-station available after y2k, and the MLev station after 2020 :)

altho; some sets include Mlev before 2020...

They'll have to wait for matching station then ;) All in all it's the matter of trends in architecture, not transport technology.
