speed limit in towns(cars)

I don know is this have discused before ,but heres my idea
so I drived today home and think about the ottd and then I realised that there is no speed limit in the towns for buses and trucks...
it would me more realistic if max speed would be acumulated afte leavining city boder...
AND
why could airports can be build next to each othe like busstops and trainstations???

The speed limit thing makes sense.
(There were 20 lines about the airport thing here,
but i decided to edit them out.
Airport discussions tend to get heavy i think...)

here in Latvia speed limit is 50km/h in towns

with a limit in towns makes more sense the one way roads simulating highways
could be done as: all roads are 50kmh except "one way" ones

Yes, and it makes also more sens to use Tramway.
no such speed limit for tram because in real live they have special arrangments like :
- light turn to green when tram arrives,
- some part of the track are dedicated
That make them to drive faster.
very good idea.
town limit definition could be the tree circle that grow up when town grows...

and aslo grf sets with buses =<50 km/h with bigger capacities and buses 50> faster but less passengers...

It is true big buses go slower, but come take the articulated bus that takes me home after 23.00. The bus is almost empty (<10 people), no passengers waiting in many bus stops, the avenue clear and the bus driver races >>70km/hr to go home too!

Should make it configurable, the limit here is 30mph(48km/h) in town centres

In Athens it is 50km/hr everywhere (centre, suburbs), rarely 40. But big avenues have their own limits (70 - 90), and toll (pay) highways 120.

Some roads have limits of 40mph and 50mph as well as 60mph on some country roads.
I think it would end up being a Speed Signs type patch at the this rate

Australia (well NSW at least) has 50km/h on most streets. 60km/h on main streets. 40km/h near schools, or some busy pedestrian areas. And 70km/h on really big streets (say at least two lanes each way divided). Country roads go anywhere from 80km/h to 100km/h. and Freeways and Motorways are usually 100km/h or 110km/h
Try implementing that

Game has only one kind of roads.

Actually, wouldnt be that hard if you zoned your roads like you would Simcity properties. Of course that means any speed limits are entirely self enforced and would only be good for realism, of course OTTD isnt exactly a bastion of realism

50 km/h on roads with sidewalks, 100km/h on normal roads, no limit on one way roads
The game (and the player) should be able to identify those without much codechange because they have different sprites.

keep back compatability in mind, though. I like the idea of speed limits on roads, especially the one-way road idea, but they're Very new and a lot of older scenarios can't account for this.

using gonozals idea there would be complete backwards compat. as the speed zones would be dictated by the engine rather then the save. Of course if it was save based you could make the engine add them for the next save.

My point orientates around the use of roads to set the speed limit. There are a lot of old
scenarios which have "highways/motorways" which used to be represented through two roads running parallel. These would have the 100km/h speed cap on them when in fact, if designed in the new 0.6 engine should be uncapped due to the lanes would have been one way.
Just something I think should be kept in mind.

An enable/disable (disabled by default) patch option would solve backwards compatibility.
Other that that, I would say something like 30 mph in towns, 50 mph out of towns, no limit on 1-way out of town.

in my scenarios I use 1 way (elevated-)roads simulating highways thorugh towns, so I think it should be no limit for all 1 way roads
