Is there already a grf for this? If not i feel that this would be a good idea, for example roundabouts, and one way roads through town centres etc.

You allready have support for one way roads in the
nightlies, just hold CTRL while dragging the road.

Only in the nightlies, i.e. not in 0.5.something but it will be in 0.6.0.

really I don't understand any advantage of that.
for me, it's absolutely useless.
busses won't go faster.
busses can already overtake on double sided road.
what's the advantage for you ?

So you can direct traffic in a certain direction and reduce the chance of traffic jams?

I admit that for gameplay, they can be useless....but i like using them for eyecandy. I just like to have proper motorways and railway mainlines leaving my major cities and spanning across my map.
There's a lot of things i do in my game just because it looks good...maybe i should start playing properly, i might be good at it then!

traffic jam ?
you are serious ?
maybe you did not check carefully the overtake feature....
you will have exactly same traffic on a single side and on a double side road !
why ?
because on a
double side road busses and trucks can overtake exactly the same as on a single side road, thay can go through other vehicules.
did you never seen that : a bus that overtake another bus even if there is a truck on otherside of the road ?
(see my attachment : on same side of the road you have bus on the opposite direction of two trucks, and the bus will go through the two trucks)
What does it mean : you have all freedom to go through others vehicule, thank with that you don't need a "one side road"
By the way I would like to say, I'm sure if you use the "one side raod" feature, you delivery time will be higher : by making road restriction, your path will be longer... in fact you think you will avoid traffic jam but you will have a worth performance
Ps : "single side raod" a eye candy ?...

Each to their own isn't it mate? I'll play the way i like thank you. I personally like the idea of one way roads and like the look of motorways spawning their maps...some people do not...just justifying a reason for why i like to use tem, nobody else has to!

So why are you telling us? If you don't like it, don't use it, nobody forces you to do. If you make a poll to remove that, the option to keep it will get 90% of the votes, because OpenTTD is no longer like normal TTD to just play and get money, it's way too easy to do that today. Making stuff look good and be efficient is quite a challenge, and when I last played OTTD, I spend about 4 million just to make some nice tunnels & bridges through mountains instead if going over them.

Check out my screenshot chapter: One-way road junctions...
There you can see some of my junctions, the meaning of these roads are in fact just eye-candy if you ask me
just press the picture and see my junctions Greetz

No, I just wanted to inform people that may read people here that : one way road wont help for traffic jam.
Desolator wrote:

ok, I just said it's eye candy.
Desolator wrote:

Did I said that ? did I say this feature must be removed ?
I'm sorry if you understood my post as agressive, it was not my goal.
I just wanted to tell anyone that can read it that with double side raod you can handle same traffic than with one way road.
I was not attacking you.
you know it, and you feel very good with one way road, that's just perfect.
I love trams, others one may find it unusefull, that's it.

Except that it will.
In case you hadn't noticed, vehicles will not attempt to pass when there is an oncoming vehicle. They'll continue quite happily if one appears, but they won't start when one is present.

I've seen that a little change have been made "recently", that's true, but it's still not perfect.
On a very recent nightly I took the screenshot (2 post before), where the busse will happily go through the two trucks.
but you right, that's true it's better than earlier.

There's one more feature that one way roads give you. It's closing roads (i.e. to forbid your RVs to use a level rail crossing).

If by "recently" you mean "twelve years ago", then yes, that change was made recently. That particular behaviour is a holdover from TTD, if not TTO.

i cant believe im reading this.... one way roads useless???!!!!!
ok, i understand if u dont like to use´em but say they´re useless ???!!!
look these pictures, the first shows a big jam caused by my poor management of the tracks....
the second shows what u did with the one way roads....
the third shows how my highway became faster, safer and usefull after my work...

I agree with corps because they can make the game more efficient.
Also I will make your game look better. cause one-way roads give
you the opportunity to create some form of highways and let the
traffic circle better to their destinations...
screenshot: This is one of my best junctions I've created it's in between
4 major industry zones and this gives the trucks the opportunity to
choose the right road... It's also very nice to look at (eye-candy as they call it)

Ok, all my appologies for all of you,
one way road are usefull, and not only for eye candy (which was my feeling, please note that "eye candy" is important too, we are not playing a text based game btw).
sorry, my trucks network never been so loaded that one-way-road was required.
and, I've seen so much time trucks that can go through other trucks (yes, even it's supposed to be fixed for 12 years, it happens in trunk r11344 I daily use).
sorry sorry sorry.
Sir A. Boey : your junction is nice, (a little big for me I think) and it would be better to have a screenshot with a lot more trucks (to show it's cool for traffic)
corps : OK, I agree. I look carefully at you screenshot, unfortualty, first one is scalled down, I can't clearly see your road, but it look that you use "one-way-road", and I notice it's really jamed.
and that's also true that this feature allow us to block a road, which is also usefull, sometimes.
in conclusion : yes I was wrong. this feature is interresting, especialy for eye candy and when you want to make efficient loaded road network.
best regards.

something fun: a 256x256 map where you make a large O highway and only use trucks, no trains
