A question, What are the current buses in the game? No not exact model year, are they buses or coaches?

Buses - the intra-city types:


or coaches - Greyhound / National Express / general Inter-City)?


Its never really occured to me to ask this before and I don't believe I've ever seen a topic on it. I ask because GeekToo is currently drawing a RV in the "Blender - new graphics" thread seems to have gone with the assumption they're coaches (not saying he's wrong).

The current buses in OTTD could be either, but the new pics will actually allow the player to see the difference.

Admittedly the Foster MkII "Superbus" does look like a Coach (which is the one GeekToo is modelling), but the Hereford and Foster are both more generic and personally strike me more as Buses. The MPS seems to predate the difference.

The Hereford/Foster is definately reminiscient of your bog-standard service bus.

That can be easily diffrentiated I think.

The coaches are Buses with only two doors and a place for baggage

They also should be a bit longer than not-articulated buses (I think there isn't anything like articulated buses either in openttd and concerning gameplay they should have bigger capacity, especially the newer double-floored ones, worse acceleration and better top speed.

The intercity-buses will have to wait for eachother and make lots of turns so they have less use of high top speed and gain more from good acceleration. they also should look much lower, than the coaches, and maybe be more colourful. You know what I mean

these all are intercity buses in tallinn. There are actually even low-level articulated buses, but these aren't listed there.


EDIT: Now I read the first post again and managed to catch a question there :D
My answer is that those coases (coach+bus=coas ) are multifunctional, because there are so few of them avilable at same time.

Generally agreed, but how should they be modelled is what I meant? Unless someone wants to invent a new for of generic bus.

I suppose we need a discussion about coaches and buses, but I leave this till we can have passengers destinations in trunk. For current state I suggest we use coaches for tourists and passengers but not buses for tourists.

I think the above bus/coach pretty much matches the ones in tt. Not ugly, not too big and clumsy like a coach. Its the Volvo B12BLE btw, made 2001.

Hower this coach is the most common I think. The buses u speak of feels crummy to use for city-to-city transfer.

By saying B12BLE you've not said anything besides it's a 12 liter rearmounted engine with low-entry chassi. In the world of buses, the body is the important thing, in this case it's a Säfflebuilt 8500LE.
And I do agree, it's just about what the TT world's buses are.

But for now, in the non-32bpp world we have LV4 which puts a noticeable difference between city bus and coach.

them and ask for permission to make models with those being as reference, so that they would change the pictures of long vehicles grf not trg1r.
That mean's that for that work to be profitable the long vehicles should be included defaul in future and I'm not so sure about that to happen.

Hehe, well Im no expert, I just forwarded the info on the page where I found the pic.

Im gonna take for granted that all the buses/coaches are gonna be scaled to the same size in order to keep gameplay. I hope no-one objects to that.

At least the ones we 've got here have wider doors than the one you posted.
