A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
Meaning something like a minimum distance of 15 or 20 or more blocks of land between say a coal mine and a power plant.. that way you don't get them being put right on top of each other then they get subsidized and you get 2 bucks for hauling it. That really sucks later in the game, I have had way too many farms be to close to factories and have to switch to trucks instead of using a train, which gets it there very fast and more of it. Please consider this one.

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
I asked this way back in the day, but my suggestion was a more general one of "Don't let too many industries be placed in clusters".

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
Ok.. better idea... instead of a minimum distance, how bout make the industries be checkable to have them check whether the distance is a profitable one or not. Is that possible. Some industries(the raw ones) need to be further away so they are profitable. I never use Oil because of that, the wells always pop up 5 to 8 squares away, and in the future even trucks don't make profits..

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
That's a tough one because there are a lot variables in that. vehicle capacity, vehicle speed, vehicle running costs, production of industry etc.furdude6 wrote:Ok.. better idea... instead of a minimum distance, how bout make the industries be checkable to have them check whether the distance is a profitable one or not. Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
Hadn't thought of that, but even better yet.. as the years progress make the industries farther apart to make them profitable.. I hate passing subsidies because they won't be profitable later..

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
This is already doable with newgrf. Use callback 28 (Industry location permissibility) combined with variable 64 (Distance of nearest industry with given type).
Of course, this would be a gameplay mod, and wouldn't be realistic. No-one ever said "Oh, we can't build the processing plant next to the farm, it's too convenient!"

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
If the local authorities offer a subsidy that you know is not viable, it is a good idea to ignore it. Let the AI grab it and go broke. Part of the game is making these decisions. We can't have it too easy now, can we?

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
TTD already have code to prevent this: there are three "incompatible types" for each industry type (for example, a coal mine is incompatible with a power plant), and TTD doesn't build an industry too close to those that are incompatible with it. As PikkaBird has said already, GRF authors can have more control about this since a while. I'm not sure this should be a setting that players can change, though.

Re: A good suggestion, Minimum distance between needed industrie
I agree. However if the plurality want this, then so be it, but not now. There are too many things (bug list) that have a higher priority and need resolution so that we, the players, can have a nice stable beta (10?) to play with.Csaboka wrote:... Already used in ECS Wood, Town and Agricultural vectors. Would be added in all the vectors later.furdude6 wrote:Meaning something like a minimum distance of 15 or 20 or more blocks of land between say a coal mine and a power plant.. that way you don't get them being put right on top of each other then they get subsidized and you get 2 bucks for hauling it.
