My results. :|

Note that it lists my ISP as Verizon, however it's actually Earthlink, with Version under contract. However, Version isn't honoring their end of the contract. I'm supposed to get 8 Mb/s, but I only get about 80 Kb/s max to about two third of places on the internet. For the other third I get anywhere from a spastic connection of 20 Kb/s (like to the state of Arizona :?) to a constant one at 4-11 Kb/s... :(

Did somewhere, it say anything to the effect of 'actual speeds may vary by location'?

That, my friend, is what they usually mean right there.

Nope, nothing beyond the likes "exact connection speed varies, depending upon on other clients' connection", disclaiming with about slow servers/clients. (I don't remember the exact word-for-word text, it's been like seven or nine years. But I read it throughly and there was nothing to as you asked.) The contract was setup based on my exact location. Crazy thing is too is that some friends of mine are directly serviced by Version, in a location where 'FiOS' (some 'uber-fast' service thingy) is available, and therefore paying for it, and only getting the same speed as I do. :? Funny thing is that if I lived about a half mile north from where I am, in the non-Version area, but still being with Earthlink I'd have the full speed I'm supposed to get. I think I'll just stay where I am, be thankful I don't have don't have dial-up, and wait and hope for the best to happen.

Although, apparently the best ISP in my aera is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, with a full 30 Mb/s. :o

Or express the "Man, I feel stupid" feeling?

Cool thing is that I am getting a speed closer to 8 Mb/s, but only to San Francisco. (If only I could get there that fast. :P )
