Dead Tracks...

I just got an idea in my mind: It would be superawesome, if all those station sets would have some dead track included. I just think about some pseudo-platform, a tile which looks like a platform, but acts like a buffer stop.

The idea is to build a terminus station which looks like a drive through station. I often build stations with a drive-throgh part for express-trains and a terminus part for local services. Sometimes it doesn't look that well that way and a drive throgh station would look nicer. Also with some dead track two trains could use the same platform, like I've often seen at the nearest train station from here...

The Canadian Stations Set is well equipped to do just that ...

I think he means a track sprite that behaves like the platform sprite in your screenshot, which noone has ever coded yet.

Re-reading the post ... now I do understand; but that would be extremely confusing. Anyone, building stations like that would surely complain, why the train does not continue, but returns instead. In the screenshot, the adjacent buffer stops use 2 tiles; this could be coded such, that it only uses 1 tile, but that would be the only thing I'm prepared to do. Having a platform tile with track and preventing the train from entering it, would definitely be a no-no.

That would be awesome!

Well, if that is requested; I can add them easily. They are coded already anyway, I just need to add back-to-back buffer stops ... would the sample be acceptable ?

I though the same too, but was tired to mention it yesterday.
Yet this could be solved somehow by adding some vegetation on that track, making parts of it rusty...

Looks good to me.

Something like in the attachment below should look cool too.

Or something like this ... crosswalk plus double buffer stops ... I'll get our chief engineer to do it.

on a slightly different note, how about something like the following? imo the gaps between tracks in TT make realistic stations too hard to achieve.

(obviously the mockup shows depots, just put platform there instead, still with the false rail in the middle.)

Thats very possible - Michael is using it for sidings and switch yards in his "New Stations" set for the freight stations. He's even got dummy rolling stock wagons and other things on the sidings! Also run-around tracks at passenger stations, used for loco hauled trains (obviously only eye candy, but still really cool).

That is of course another idea ... but for another day in the Canadian Stations Set.

I've implemented the back-to-back buffer now; it'll come in all flavours, i.e. brick, concrete and roofed and low level including snow variants next Friday. We shall see how it is received ...

Long awaited, should be in every set! And saves space of course. I would also like something similar as a part of a station hall (although hardly visible for the eye, the idea of having a dead end underneath a station hall is yet to developed...

sounds like this may be a request for generic buffer set v1.5
