Merging companies

I am constructing a map on the South Island of new zealand with several railways operating. The player is to take over the competion. However I have a problem in that the game wont let me merge companies. I have tried checking and unchecking "Resigning as Chairman".

When playing however, in all cases, the Chairman must resign. How can I set it so the chairman remains with his company and merge that company with another company?

Any help appreciated.

I had a problem in one of my campaign games. The two computer players owned most of the outstanding stock in the last competing railroad (I needed to be the only railroad in business for gold.) They of course voted against the merger even though I had some stock myself and maxed out the offer stock price. So I just kept squeezing that last railroad, stealing every bit of cargo I could. Finally it ran down so far that when I tried the merger again it was successful.

BTW that's a good way to make money- buy up the stock of a competing railroad with your personal cash. (This is also critical as you need the proxy votes at merger time.) Then when your company buys it out at a very large premium, you make a killing.

That's the kind of thing I miss when I play OpenTTD.
