 First i want to Tanks OpenTTD Team, to remake a game of my youth

Now the Sugestions.

Why we can't use Helicopters forever?
Theyre smal but useful at some situations (and they're Fun!!! :D )
(i tried TTDAlter, but it sems only to work on original TTD, well duh!)

More Inteligent car-drivers (oh its a maglev... Ouch...)

And a better tool to build Channels (we can only build them in line, that is not pratical to build this kind of construction, especially in a large scale)

And a option to rotate the camera (to see more than a prespective)

I think this is not possible because there are no sprites with different perspective than default.

Wouldn't the sprites really just be the same? A building could look the same from the front as the back, it might seem like a cheap fix, but I don't think most would mind every object looking the same but the ability to see your tracks easily if they go behind objects.

Please explain how to get the 180 degree rotation of http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Image:Steelmill.png from the base sprites; how would it look?

Yes your right, but maybe it will be possible on OpenTTD 7.0...

It is not a matter of versionning, it is a matter of available graphics.

We cannot guess what is on the other face of a building/industry. This is something that needs to be provided by the engine.

Therefor, if graphics are provided, maybe, JUST MAYBE, work could be done on it.

But I fear much work would be required...

Correct me if i am wrong but, the grafics expected for 7.0 aren't in 3D?

For version 7, anything might happen. :P

But it still doesn't escape the fact that graphics would have to come from somewhere, and the game would have to be changed (quite significantly) in order to be able to use them.

Well it would look exactly the same, we simply assume the front is the same as the back.

Right now we have 1 view, the front, well if we add the back, front then we'd just see the same object sprite but all objects would be in the opposite order.

Two sides of my house look exactly the same, two sides of my car do too, using the same graphics is possible, we needn't guess what is back there we just use what it looks like from the front.

32bits maybe, but we do not want 3D. Already been discussed
But as Maedhros said, anything can happen in 0.7.x

So it means your house has 2 entries, 2 garden, 2 driveway : one in the front and one in the back.
Your car has two trunk, red lights in the front and the back.
To be honest, I doubt that very much.
And this is just a 180 degree view.
What about 90 degree view? You will need the sides too...
So as you can see, it DOES require more images

2 Entries yes, 1 to the garden ... I said house so the driveway and such are not counted.

The Car doesn't have two trunks, but from the 2 side views, you can see the trunk - it looks exactly the same, when you can't see the steering weel ofcourse.

For a front and back view, we wouldn't need side images, and it could be very useful, I find it hard to see some bus stations and tracks because of large buildings in front.

Just feel I ought to add in the issue of lighting as well ;)

Ha ha ha...

First of all, you have to know that :
- devs (and most of user) loves the feel and look of ottd as it is, that means there is no 3D planned at all! And even, I'm sure the 32bpp branch will never merge into the trunk (by the way this branch need so many megabyte of picture file...).
- version 7.0 is so far... don't expect before year 2009 ! you better to play with nightly trunk before...

It is already :D see: http://blog.openttd.org/?p=15#more-15.
(only without 32 bits graphics)

Yes I do know, I was not speaking about that, I was speaking about "experimental" graphic replacement(*), like that :
Image
see this thread https://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... highlight= from Sergej_S.

Even if someones could find that beautifull, it won't ever be in the trunk.
So, no need to speak about 3D ;)

(*) I'm not speaking about TTRS, this picture something different.

Hmm, something tells me you're lieing.

You can already load 32bpp graphics in trunk, only it isn't as easy as it was in 32bpp, but it will become easier. On the other hand the concept for replacing sprites is much easier in trunk compared to the dead 32bpp branch.

Of course it won't make it into the trunk. Those buildings are not scaled properly.
Instead of talking like that give a hand to artists and others who are already drawing and coding 32bpp sprites for 64 tileset.
